This story was short, yet very powerful.

Quote
I am not an extraordinary man. I'm not one to stand out in a crowd. It's worked to my advantage in the past- if you stand out, you get noticed, and for me that could be absolutely disastrous.

Out of necessity and habit Clark has had to stand 'at the edge of the spotlight' to avoid being noticed, especially when he first arrived in Metropolis. Which, all things considered was the right thing to do.

Quote
I'm a good reporter, but not a brilliant one. The flashes of brilliance at the Planet come from Lois, my sometime partner. I just follow her lead.

Totally disagree on this point. Clark is an excellent journalist! True his stories about the knob-tailed gecko from the Borneo Gazette might not have been great, but it was a start. Taking what on the surface seemed like a simply puff piece on the demolition of an old theater and turning it into something that touches the heart takes considerable talent. Lois helped him when he began, but in time his talents grew into their own.

As his life in Metropolis became richer and his circle of friends and acquaintances grew, Clark put aside these feelings and became so much more than a Hack from Nowheresville.

Thanks for writing this intriguing story. thumbsup

Another great piece NostalgiaKick clap clap clap.

I very much enjoyed this. I love the depth that you are givng these early moments in the series, and really hope that you continue to do more of them.

I always really loved ILTY. There's so much more meaning than what's on the surface in that episode. And Lois and Clark seem to settle a bit into working together, getting to know each other, in this episode.

That conversation on Clark's balcony is a great early 'moment' between Lois and Clark. I love how you incorporated Clark's thoughts on that conversation into your story.

Really wonderful job smile
Laura

"Where's Clark?" "Right here."

...two simple sentences--with so much meaning.

Clark Kent started to become invisible.

So true and so sad.

Now I'm slowly disappearing- losing myself to the red and blue Suit.

And that's the scariest part - when Superman starts to almost take over, before Clark finds his work-life-superhero balance.

Perry might argue with you there, Clark.

Awww!

Other than my parents, would anyone really notice?

Believe it or not, Clark, yes.

After all, I've done it before- disappeared from one far flung location and resurfaced in another.

But that was before Perry and Jimmy and Lois!

I already know what it feels like.

I was going to say the same thing.

As always, you pack a punch into a short little story, that's all the stronger for its brevity. Well done!

I like this a lot! This episode always hits me hard because I love that they explored what it would mean to Clark to lose himself to Superman -- he really had no idea that Superman would be so accepted and loved, to the point where Clark became mediocre and in the background. A very compelling arc, and this story perfectly highlighted it. It was sad to see Clark thinking that his 'human' side isn't extraordinary - just glad that WE know later on Lois appreciates his human side!:) The last line was just perfect and packed an emotional punch that was perfect for the mood!

Superman: I hear you've been looking for me.
