Now that was definitely a more logical ending than the one on the show. Why *couldn't* Clark have zapped Lenny's glove? As you said -- if he could see it, he could zap it. Lenny's "sound barrier" wouldn't block electromagnetic energy, which is what light, both visible and invisible, is.
Also, Lois didn't stand there doing nothing. Good.
