If it gets knocked out, I'll post tomorrow. It's posted, now! My apologies to anyone who found the description of the dead body a little too much information. And you all thought Lex was a bad man. I've been deliquent in posting comments lately but know that I've been following this story and have been enjoying it.
I'm not one who is ususally fond of strict episode rewrites, but the absent Clark twist makes it more interesting. It's fun to watch the clever ways you are able to hold to canon while 'filling in' for the absent Clark.
Now we are heading into one of my favorite parts of Lois' journey. The... (wait for it)... haircut!
Aside from liking the way Lois looked in the shorter style, I've always thought of it as the physical signal of the change in Lois and Clark's relationship. It represented the 'change' in Lois and the change in her attitude about love and acceptance of another.
Since the show never revealed Lois' thought process behind the decision, it should be easy to incorporate it into your partially altered storyline. It could be as simple as a miscue at the salon or as complicated as some convoluted series of events which lead to Lois' losing some hair.
I can see it being a move on Lois' part to further discourage Dan's affections. Hopeing (or based on some comment he'd made) he won't like her in short hair, she gets it cut. Obviously it's her hair and no man can tell her how she should wear it.
Looking forward to more.
Tank (who would think that Lois' decision would be supported by her 'Clark voice' since we all know that Clark likes Lois in short hair)

Poor Jimmy. Lois isn't going to fall for him in this dimension either. I half thought a Superman from another dimension might show up when Lois called out his name.

Virginia, You know by now that I am not one to pick nits, but, I think if you check you will fine that the song is "Cats in the Cradle" and it is NOT by Cat Stephens, it is by Harry Chapin. It happens to be one of my favorites. Such a sad tail. He died in an auto accident on the Long Island Expressway in 1981. Cat Stephen's most fameous song is "Morning Has Broken" which he wrote after converting to Islam and was written as praise to Allah.

Thank you, and you are completely right and I have corrected this in my story. That YouTube Link confused me. At least, I am not alone in my belief of Cat Stephens having covered this song, per Wikipedia: Cat Stevens has been mislabeled as singing this song, but his website said this: "Recently there have been a number of Cat's In The Cradle MP3 files on file sharing services that claim to be either Cat Stevens, or Harry Chapin and Cat Stevens. They are not, it's just Harry. Or in some cases some other artist who recorded the song. Cat not only didn't write the song but never performed it. Not live, not in the studio, and not even privately." Grammatically "Cat's" with the apostrophe short for "Cat is in the Cradle" or "Cat's Cradle", possessive for the old game played with string. (Hey, at least I got that right, huh? ) Yes, I love that other Cat Stephens song as well. Beautiful.

Hey, Virginia, you've got another reader! This is a pretty cool story; I like the premise very much. It's interesting to see how everything is the same, but different, without Clark. I'm enjoying the conversations with Clark in Lois's head. Lots of fun to read! I like it.
PS - Not to highjack the thread, but in regards to "Morning Has Broken" - I was in shock when I read Ken's post. That song is in our church's hymnal. Could it be possible that we have been singing praises to Allah in our Sunday worship? No. According to the United Methodist Hymnal, the lyrics were written by Eleanor Farjeon in 1931 (and are based on Lam. 3:22-23) and the tune is a traditional Gaelic melody. (Not that I usually put much trust in what I read on Wikipedia, but if you look it up, Wikipedia says the same thing. The song was written by Eleanor Farjeon and erroneously attributed to Cat Stevens - who did, indeed, convert to Islam, so he probably did intend it as praise for Allah when he performed the song.)

Well, we've gotten to the part where Lois is either completely loopy when she answers the voice in her head, or she is living two lives at the same time. She refuses to say goodbye to the part of Clark that resides inside her, but she also seems to reject the flesh and blood males who are making a bid for her company. Lois is in trouble all the time lately, and since there is no Superman to help her out, she is really nearer the edge of insanity than any other time in her life. If she survives the latest of the threats on her life, she is going to have to start facing the reality that she is not living her life, merely existing in it. Poor Lois! You need to put her out of her misery! We really want you to include Clark back in her life, but if she can't have him, maybe one of these threats will do the job. You have Lois over the edge of the point of no return!
Enjoying the story, Virginia. Keep up the good work, but be kinder to Lois, please. Pat

I completely always read this as ‘coconut’ instead of ‘cocoanut’. Except for the coconut-based sun lotion of Jimmy. Oops “Do you want to hear something funny?” Jimmy asked after they had been quiet for some minutes. /expects Jimmy making fart joke/ He’s been in Vegas, blowing up some old casino. So, taking out a mob boss by blowing up his casino with him inside? Before I got your call, I had been thinking, more like daydreaming, that maybe he’d visit me this weekend.” This will be important later. Cuckoo. “I bet he wouldn’t have followed you home after being sprayed by Revenge,” Jimmy grumbled. Wouldn’t have had to. Lois would have been sprayed, too. Oh, wait, that wasn’t your point, was it? . Clark had too much respect for her to take advantage, even when Lois knew he had been dosed as well. Not too much respect to bruise her ego, because he had finally caved by the next morning. /remembers recent scene from middle-age-like show/ They took a bucket put a rat inside and strapped the bucket to the naked belly of the guy holding information. Well… the guy unlucky enough to be today’s candidate. And then they heated up the other side of the bucket.

His Dad is coming to his rescue because the watch has some whacky emergency signal built in that gets activated when removed from Jimmy. See, his Dad will be important later on. Fine! Ghost - Movie with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. Duh! That 'Ghosts'. Hmmm. Well, let's see, Lois doesn't end up making out with any females psychics. Does that clarify matters any? Or is that counted as a spoiler when I tell you what she doesn't do? She also doesn't make out with Perry. Or Deter... did I say Deter? No, he's not in this story... Don't even think that... moving on... So Lex didn't ask him whether he preferred to try the glowing poker or the 2x4 first? No, Lex asked Nigel and then used both. Rescue: Action which removes city-folk from nasty outdoors and exposure to elements and gnats. So, does it count if they are "rescued" from the elements by bad guys, but then they still need to be "rescued" (different definition) from the bad guys? That vacation sure went South fast. Oopsie! BC: 7 (Virginia forgot Tempus) But does he really count, because a) Tempus did this to himself, and b) is it really killing him by failing to get him conceived? <<bats eyelashes innocently>> Ooooh.
