This is all CarolM’s fault, with her questions about warp drives and subspace travel . Well, her and my devious Muse… This story also ignores that pesky NK stuff.

The Circle of Utopia.
By Mr_D8a.

Lois and Clark get married; have children and their children have children, etc. Millenniums pass and the earth is a stark, barren seeming planet. After the last intergalactic war, the inhabitants decide to move the entire planet to another location. An older star system that would still support life. They destroyed all space travel technology, renamed the planet, created a new written and spoken language and purged all historical references to Earth.

For another couple of millennia it worked. But then the planet’s core became unstable. They ignored the warnings given by their Chief Science Advisor and thus sowed the seeds of their destruction.

The Advisor and his wife had one option. Save their family. They opened the forbidden archives and struggled to grasp the ancient, yet vital ideologies. After many failures, they constructed a small test craft. It was only big enough to hold their infant son.

They set the control crystals for a distant past and location. They had found the historical data and believed their son was the one that started it all.

If they sent their son, they doomed their race to continue in a never ending cycle. If they didn’t send the boy, the Kryptonian people would never exist. The cycle would be broken and a universe reformed into something new. Would it be kinder or more evil?

They stood there, frozen by the enormity of the choice. Finally, it was taken away from them. The planet shook and a falling piece of debris hit the launch interface and the ship was gone. Sent into the past into a galaxy far, far away.

“Oh, Jonathan! Isn’t he a cute baby?”

The End.

Author's note: The above is what I turned over to my Beta, thinking it was finished. My beautiful beta had other ideas ...
