I've been watching Superman Returns while folding laundry this week. I don't like that Superman nearly as much as ours; what a presumptuous move to just erase her memories because she 'couldn't handle it.' But I noticed the "I'll be around" line and remembered that our Superman said the same thing. And, of course he is around...much more so than Lois realizes. So, this little bit of fluff was the result of that tiny little epiphany. Enjoy!

Awww That was so sweet. I like that she recognized the resemblance right away. Loved the story

Awwwwwwwwwwww is right! I love it! My favorite revelation ever! smile

What a relief to see them skip the "I am hurt, you lied to me" part for once and go on with the good stuff!

Feel good piece of the year!

Love it! Great way to connect the dialog from the pilot with everything that happened after... and then I loved the "you flew me through that window" revelation laugh The whole thing, in fact, was sweet and WAFFy and entirely satisfying. <happy sigh>

Thanks for sharing!

That was beautifully written and managed to give something so familiar a wonderful new slant.

Well done!

i reread it again and i love how you reversed this. not sure anyone else has done it. lovely, waffy story

“Can I make a suggestion?” I ask.

“Please.”

“Well, let’s finish what we started…let’s go on a real date, no stakeout, no Ralph’s pagoda, then, take it from there.”

“A real date, huh? You mean one where I shave after work and put on my best cologne—the one I bought in Paris--and hope for a goodnight kiss at your door afterward?” Oh, yeah, he’s feeling better now.

Thanks, Robinson. The scripts link was a real help with this story. I started out with the first part from the "I'll be around" line, but then I needed a place to put it. I.e. when is Lois thinking all this? Top Copy just seemed to fit, and then I had fun twisting it around. Just skimming the list of Season 1 & 2 episodes gave me ideas of memories to use for the first part as well.

Thanks again! I love feedback!

I like the homage: "I'll be around". Didn't Christopher Reeve say that in Superman: The Movie? And Brandon Routh said it again in Superman Returns.

Of course, if you're the reporter who's looking for the story, "I'll be around" is irritatingly vague.

But a really wonderful, romantic, and well-written vignette!

Yes, I think all the Supermen have said that. It was the Brandon Routh version that got me thinking of this story. It's just such an ironic line when delivered to Lois Lane because she has no clue that he's around her all the time.

It reminds me of the deus obscurus (sp.?) idea; that G*d is always present but often hidden so that we aren't aware of it. Superman is around Lois all the time, but he's hidden so she isn't aware of it. That's especially true in the movies where Superman is more the 'real' self and Clark is a bumbling disguise. Of course, in L & C it's Clark who is the primary personality, but Superman is still part of him.

Thanks again for the lovely feedback. laugh

What a delightful idea for a ficlette. I enjoyed how you presented your premise and then filled it in with examples.

The ending was just as delightful with just a touch of humor.
