Welcome back, Terry. I'm very sorry for your loss. It sounds like your trip was just what it needed to be.

As for feedback: Linda, Linda, Linda! Clark is being so careful not to undermine your career, and here you are going below the call of duty all on your own. It looks to me like Linda makes her own luck, so to speak.

And Lucy is about to be in deep doo-doo. However, if Henderson is a good experienced homicide detective, he will realize that a murder as gruesome as Christie's is a crime of passion, and, even though Lucy might have had enough motivation to shoot Christie, she wasn't deeply enough involved with her to actually bludgeon her to death so messily.

Once Toni hears about Christie, she'll immediately suspect Johnny. Question is, will Johnny's treatment of Toni earlier make her mad enough to turn on him? Or will she protect him because of their family ties and to avoid embarrassment to the Metros? Or maybe this is her golden opportunity to get him out of the way?

And how does Clark tie into the murder investigation?

Looking forward to seeing what you've got for us next.

This *is* my happily ever after.

So she stuck her head in his office, checked with the kitchen staff, the wait staff – who added to her burden when they told her that the new waitress was missing in action
[...]
Then a thought struck her. The last place she might check was the small sleeping alcove off his office. Toni had caught him in there with Christie late one night almost two months before, and that was when she’d been promoted from waitress to singing star.
Oh-oh eek

Quote
Toni pushed the door open and blurted out, “All right, Christie, you’ve missed an entire – “

It wasn’t Christie.

A naked blond woman was lying next to Johnny.
Yep...

Quote
The girl dropped her gaze and blushed. “Yes, ma’am, I will.” Then she headed out the door. She looked more than a bit unsteady on her feet, although she didn’t seem to be drunk. Maybe she was just overwhelmed by Johnny’s masculine charm.
Um... why do I have a feeling that Johnny put a roofy in Linda's glass dizzy

Quote
“You’re my sister. You’re family. I won’t let anyone else hurt you. But you can’t tell me what to do! You ain’t Mom.” He paused, then added, “And you sure ain’t Pop.” He took a deep breath, then stepped out and closed the door behind him.
Now that's brotherly love laugh

This is one of the few times that we see Toni show even a hint of weakness. And Johnny is a coward.

Love the last line. Wonder if Clark paused outside the door, hoping they truly were decent.

Poor Linda! Even thought I don't like her, I have a feeling she didn't plan this.

Looking forward to the next part.

Thanks, everyone!

HappyGirl: You're right on target. What will Toni do and why will she do it? How much trouble is Lucy really in? How stupid is Linda? Good questions all. We shall see what unfolds.

Michael: Did Johnny put a date-rape drug in Linda's drink? Maybe so. Will Clark beat on Johnny? That would cause all kinds of trouble for him and his undercover identity, so it isn't likely unless he actually catches Johnny slapping Toni around.

Elisabeth: Clark was indeed a gentleman! He wouldn't peek in on three attractive women who might be changing clothes. Now, if it were Lois by herself...

C-mom: You might be surprised at Linda's Machiavellian tendencies.

Next chapter up soon!
