To the secret. Though some people got pretty close. I think most of us just thought he'd been locked away on his own or something though, rather than in 'hiatus.' Poor Kal, no wonder he feels embarrassed. I'm sure Lois won't care. Though he can only recall the last 10 years, he is a fully-grown man and he's had to develop a great deal of maturity in order to lead New Krypton. Due to recent developments, she's likely to be a lot more concerned how he will feel about her when he knows her secret! Of course, we know it won't change his feelings, he already knows she's an alien after all. At least they can work through it together and hopefully put her powers to very good use.
I know it's hard to believe, but I thought just the other day it would have been an interesting twist for Lois to get superpowers under a red sun. I just thought as she hadn't so far it wouldn't happen. It seems they just take time to develop. I forget it's still only been a week or so she's been there. Oh dear, watch out Krypton, with a Lois with the power to eavesdrop etc! Clark was always very careful not to abuse his power, an inquisitve Lois may have more trouble helping herself, especially until she gets used to her powers. Imagine how confusing it will be if Lois and Kal ever do visit earth!
It was a wonderful part as always. Can't wait for the next part of the conversation! I hope they're not interrupted again.
Under the plate was a piece of paper. Lois picked it up and immediately smiled. It was a simple drawing of a woman sitting on a bed facing a man sitting on a chair. The man had a plate of food on his lap; the woman was holding a cup with a waft of steam floating above it. Above the picture was the word, ‘LOIS’ and below it was the word, ‘KAL.’
This was lovely, Kal has become so thoughtful. He uses everything Lois has taught him so well.
But her gut told her Nor was a man with a plan.
And that plan did not bode well for Kal.
Lois' reporter's instincts are still very much on form. It is time she told Kal though. I imagine he will be shocked, but he knows Nor is not to be trusted, he's done some awful things, and Kal has had to step in to protect people from him. He has learned in a short time to trust Lois. She is the only person he has ever had a loving, trusting bond with. Now we fully understand why. It makes me feel so sad for him. Lois must want to hold him and never let go, but he is stonger than his innocence suggests.
He put on his newest coat and straightened it. Then he glanced around the room; he tidied the already tidy pile of Disputes. He had no intention of working on them this evening.
Kal is on a mission. Supreme Ruler duties can wait! The strict monotony of his life has at last been broken. It doesn't mean he no longer cares about his duties, he's just more able to realise that altering his schedule a little will do no harm. There are other ways to live, and much better ways to spend his time!
He really wanted tonight to go well.
He wanted Lois to smile a lot. He hoped there would be opportunity to turn off their Translators so he could become more proficient in her language. He wanted to hold her hand and touch her face.
Aww. He has such lovely, simple, expectations and such appreciation of the little things. It is so refereshing and sweet.
And, if everything had gone really well, he was hoping it would be appropriate to linger over their goodnight kiss.
The way he's thinking what's appropiate seems to suggest someone, i.e. Tek, has told him to go back to basics and build-up gradually.
“Yes.” She stepped forward, but paused as she passed him and hesitated long enough to kiss his mouth. It was short, but there was something about it that made him think it held a promise of more to come.
Perhaps his expectations aren't quite so innocent now!
She smelled wonderful. Kal took her hand and walked her to his bedroom.
Imagine the power she'll have when they take things further!
He seemed less troubled by her refusal to agree to marry him. He *would* ask her again – she was sure of that. And when he did, she intended to find out *exactly* what he meant by marriage.
You do that Lois - soon!!
He shuffled through her papers and then returned with one sheet. When he held it up, Lois recognised it as the letter she had written to Kal. “I noticed this writing starts with my name and finishes with yours,” he said. “Is it a letter?”
Ooh, I'd almost forgotten about that, and that it was bound to come up again at some point. Kal clearly didn't forget. He's keen to know everything about Lois and her writing etc.
She hadn’t realised the full repercussions of teaching him written words. “Yes.”
She's not going to be able to hide under the cover of her own language for much longer.
“Why do you want me to read it to you, Kal?” she asked, buying time to navigate her way through this. “Is it because you’d like to know what I said in the letter? Or because you are worried about telling me your secret?”
“Both,” he admitted.
Aww, she knows him so well.
Lois took the letter from him and placed it on the bed next to her. “I think it would be a good idea if we got it done first. I promise I will read you the letter after you’ve told me the secret.”
That means she has to read the letter now, and Kal won't forget!! Then he can ask her the awkward but all important questions!!
He was gone for a minute. Then a minute more. Lois perused her letter, imagining reading it to Kal. He was going to ask why she wanted to hold him, but couldn’t. And that was going to lead to a whole lot of explaining. Lois grinned suddenly ... maybe she should go with the writer’s mantra – show, don’t tell.
That would be easier ... and a whole lot more fun..
Go Lois, that's a good mantra!!
She stared at the door, wondering how rude it would be to attempt to hear what they were saying. It wouldn’t be rude at all, she decided, not for a reporter.
Good reasoning Lois!!! If you're a reporter it is perfectly acceptable to pry, eavesdrop, break-in etc.
The door peeled back and she stared *through* it.
Not through the doorway.
But literally *through* the closed door.
Oh boy!!!!
Lois slammed shut her eyes and tried to reassemble her splattered wits. What had just happened wasn’t possible. People did not see *through* doors.
It was hard enough for Lois on the show, and she had known about Superpowers for years, what they did and how they worked etc. For this Lois, who has never known Superman (well, she does now!), it must be so frightening and seem so freakish. Who knows what'll happen when the others develop.
Without waiting for her to reply, he helped her to her feet and gathered her into a close embrace. “Whatever happened Lois, we will be all right,” he said. “If we’re together, we’ll be all right. I won’t ever leave you.”
Even with his lack of experience of intimacy, Kal has already learned when it will be welcomed and what to say to comfort etc. He has seemingly never had to offer support or comfort before, just as he has never been given it, but he is a natural.
He discovered his hand on her head was moving ... gliding slowly through her soft hair. It would probably untidy it, but he couldn’t help it. He had to soothe her, had to comfort her, had to do something to make her world right again. “It’s all right,” he murmured against her ear. “It’s all right, my Lois. My lovely Lois. I love you. It’s all right.”
This was beautiful and it's all suddenly coming so naturally to him. They can get through it all with this strength of love.
“What happened?” he said.
“I don’t know,” Lois said. “But I think I just trumped your secret.”
Yeah, I think she may be right!! At least they're a bit more equal now.
“All right.” Kal’s deep breath reverberated through him and he could feel the pounding rhythm of his heart. “What I’m about to tell you I have not told anyone before. I was told that it was my duty to never tell anyone.”
Hmm, I wonder why the bad guys would protect him, and if it was the good guys who did it, why is it a secret? Because Krypton was unlikely to accept someone with so little life experience as leader? Or maybe because they don't want the rest of Krypton to know Kal's well-respected parents were so mistrusting of the other nobles.
There was still more - something in Kal’s tone told her there was more. “And?”
“And all the other years until I was fifteen and a half.”
Oooh, Corrina you've spoilt us again posting this chapter so quickly. It's going to be hard to be patient for Part 19!!

I think what I like most about their relationship is how open Kal is about everything he's feeling. There are no games being played here. She asks a question and he answers it. When he doesn't understand, he asks for clarification. It's completely refreshing, not just for Lois and her bad romantic track record, but for me as a reader. Really, really enjoyable.
This sums up pefectly one of the things that makes this fic so unique and wonderful. Even in the later series, L&C weren't always open and honest about how they were feeling etc.

I know I'm not alone in wanting to lock them into the room until they figure it all out, LOL. )
No you're not alone!!
More soon

BTW, I've just eaten a Yorkshire Pudding (savoury with gravy) for my main course of my evening meal. How's that for confusing!!!
