Of course, I am not in the UK and not a psychiatrist or psychologist, but am in the US, however I am not aware of anyone being forced to take meds unless they are a proven danger to themselves or others. Perhaps I have misunderstood.?
And there are a number of medications prescribed for Schizophrenia, Paranoid Type, that I recall with most having side effects of feeling drugged up. Although I am now retired from many years work at a state mental hospital, it was always a balancing act for our doctors to decide on medications' benefits versus detrimental side effects.
I am surprised to hear that doctors don't ask patients about their specific delusions or hallucinations as it is certainly something we would try to help patients talk about in other therapy settings here, besides being a member of the team, leading group music therapy was my primary role.
