I figured that after writing two challenge responses which portrayed Clark very negatively, I should in all fairness to him write at least one response which showed him in a positive light.

As always, feedback welcomed.

Hmm ... I'm going to guess ... the "S" on his chest?

Everyone else "misunderstands" and thinks it stands for Superman, but Clark knows that it is his family crest.

The Suit. Gotta be the suit.

The "El shield" was indeed what I had had in mind -- As Kathy pointed out, everyone else (well, except for the Kents and, eventually, Lois) thinks it is an "S" for "Superman." It is also physically near Clark's heart and he literally stands behind it.

The suit would work except for the "standing behind" part. But if that part were taken figuratively, then it could also solve the riddle.
