This took a bit longer to write than I expected. Hopefully it's worth the wait. Thanks, V, for the challenges. smile

Wahoo! The story continues! Glad to see a few pieces of Clark hovering around him, even if they haven't exactly fitted back in to the puzzle that he is. Thanks for giving us more to the story and please keep them coming.

Bruce nodded. “I’ll keep in touch.” Clark stepped aside so the man could get into his car again. Before closing the door, he looked up at Clark one more time. “I…truly regret not taking the opportunity to know your past self,” he admitted. “Maybe this can be an opportunity for both of us to start over; make something new.” He smiled. “It’s nice to meet you, whoever you are.”

Why do I get the uncomfortable feeling Bruce knows more than he is letting on? Please, please don't stop! These fascinating vignettes are keeping me on the edge of my seat!

Hi Mary!

I didn’t realize this was a sequel at first. So, the first couple of remarks are just for this as a stand-alone story smile1

Quote
Caution: Angst Recycling
Is Lois getting recycled? No, wait, Lois is recycling her feelings for Claude to reuse then with Clark.

CLARK: He’s talking about her disdain, isn’t he? dizzy

Quote
“What do you mean we can’t run it?!”
Oh, that kind of angst.

LOIS: shock

Quote
The radio crackling in his ear, asking about his oxygen supply and whether he could see his target:
Oh, you did sequels to dumped? hyper

Quote
Hearing one of his five-year-olds about to fall from the top of a tall China cabinet: that had turned out to be real, and the only thing more mystifying than how the boy had gotten up there was how Clark himself had suddenly materialized from the attic.
What’s going on? It sounds like Clark doesn’t know he’s Superman. But Lois must know, right? Dumped wouldn’t have worked otherwise.

Quote
The elevator doors opened with a soft chime. As he passed through the crowded newsroom, unfamiliar faces smiled up at him from desks or called out from the watercooler, asking how he was doing.
Okay, Clark has forgotten…stuff.

Quote
Clark only smiled politely in response and continued on to the editor’s office.
Not his first day back, faces just still unfamiliar or first day back and instinct about his boss’s office?

LOIS: I have a desk, not an office.

Quote
“If Perry were still here—” Lois’s voice was loud and clear despite the surrounding din.
shock

Quote
“Look, Mr. Edge—”
Morgan Edge? The bad guy from Supergirl? Or was he on Superman and Lois? The bad billionaires do blend together over the years.

BRUCE: Just don’t confuse me with Oliver Queen. He’s a ladies’ man in love with a black-leather-clad siren. I’m…

SELINA: If he says he’s in love with that black-leather goggle biker chick on the cover of the Gotham Post, I’ll get out the whip. mad

Quote
Elvis seemed like a good subject, though he couldn’t think why.
laugh

Quote
“I heard a lot of it,” Clark said automatically. Lois stared at him, wide-eyed, and subtly shook her head.
laugh

Quote
“Mr. Edge, Clark and I worked very hard on that story,” Lois cut in. “We, uh, can’t divulge all of our sources, but every word of it is true.”
Hey, what if Lois had the metal issues from A Beautiful Mind? Her source is just in her head and it’s all a made up conspiracy? Or to make it less sad, Lex paid a psychiatrist to diagnose her, and she just doesn’t have any physical evidence left after it gets stolen. Basically, they fake her being a mental patient.

Quote
Lois drummed her fingers on the arm of the sofa while staring at the computer on her lap. The upholstery-muffled staccato nearly echoed the heartbeats upstairs.
Nice one!

Quote
At least she wasn’t asking him to edit her copy, again
shock Things must be baaaad!

Quote
the spell checker always did a better job of catching her mistakes than he could,
Oh dear. Really baaaad.

Quote
and her insistence that he “just add something” only ever left both of them flustered.
She’s desperate!

Quote
but it was obviously coming from a long, black car parked far down the street.
The bad guy?

Quote
As he stared, it filled his vision and the chassis seemed to melt away, exposing a complicated tapestry of computer circuits and machinery that wasn’t usually found in a normal car.
A Tesla?

Quote
A dark figure exited the vehicle and, with the grace of an acrobat, launched itself onto a nearby roof. Clark stilled, watching this person slink and skulk further into the residential area, and realized with a start that he was heading right towards Clark’s own house!
The Batman!

LOIS: The Badguy.

Quote
Alarmed, Clark followed, hoping that he wasn’t about to witness his wife’s reputation as a trouble-magnet firsthand.
Yes, much better to hear about it from the police after they find her body.

Quote
From his hiding place, Clark saw the man raise a hand to knock…and then…lower it again.
BRUCE: Do I really want to talk to Lois? Do I really want that much dark and broody in my life?

Quote
I’m just in love with that other guy’s widow, and I don’t know if she can bring herself to love a literal nobody who's so completely useless.”
Oh dear. What if the bad guys literally cloned him, played some soundbites, decided they no longer needed him, cut his oxygen, and then dumped his body in the dump site?

So, two more?
