Right now, I have a headache that won't let me think straight, so I can't remember what I've been taught about passive voice. I'll be back later.
But I have to ask about Wendy's example:
Ahead of them, though there was no-one in sight, the door opened slowly with a loud, rasping creak.
How is that passive? I thought passive needed the verb 'to be' in the structure, as in 'the door
was opened slowly'. I understand that the meaning is indeed passive, but is the structure?
See ya,
