I want to say that my comment was not meant to be personal. Since I am not on Elisabeth's list, I have no clue how she handled the people she assigned stories to. My point is that once a person signs up for the ficathon -- which is voluntary -- they shouldn't need to check in.

I have never participated in a ficathon where we had to check in with the person who assigned the story, and when I co-ran the one on the nfic board, I never asked people to do that.

Posting on the board in the thread to remind the general writers that the deadline is approaching should be sufficient, especially around the holidays when people are juggling things and may not have the time to check in on whether they are working on their stories. Since we were asked when the assignments were sent out to tell you guys if we would have a problem finishing, I'd assume people would do that. It's nothing personal. I just don't appreciate seeing a post saying that my story is going to be given away because I haven't checked in -- even though I am working on it.

Lois: "Never had a need to find out its meaning."
