Yeah, that's just mean. At least Clark here wasn't trying to have a laugh at Lois's expense, though he did play a rather cruel joke on her. In his defence, he didn't mean it as a joke but, instead, a way to get a message across to her that he wasn't able to get any other way. Still, Lois might not be so quick to see the difference...
As for all you doubters who don't think I can finish this in one more post... prepare to eat your words.
