My new desktop PC is one I use for all my media stuff. I only recently discovered how to capture video from my DVD player (Vista is so annoying like that). I used the analogue connection port on the PC and used Roxio to capture the video from my DVDs to an external hard-drive to save space on my computer. From there I used Movie Maker. I've been told though that doing videos on a Mac is a lot simpler but I'm not too sure.
