I don't think H. G. Wells could kill Tempus in cold blood any more than Clark could. I'm not sure I believe even Lois could kill anyone in cold blood, though I know she'd be sorely tempted. Tempus is a lucky man.
Since this isn't a deathfic, Tempus won't succeed, of course.
