Oh, wow. I missed this when it was posted here, but what fun! Can't tell you how many places had me giggling.
I think my favorite parts were "get a grip" and "Nothing inside? That would be disappointing."
Yeah, I hate an empty suitcase.
And this:
"You're kidding! You really don't know? Wow! Where have you been the past couple of years?"
"Ugh. Locked away. Don't get me started," I tell her, hearing the frustration in my voice.
She's quiet for a few minutes. When she finally speaks again, her voice is soft, gentle. "I'm sorry. Was it bad?"
"Lonely. Horribly lonely."
"That's too bad. Really," she says genuinely.

Lovely story. Wish I were half as inventive.
