I didn't like this...for the first half of the first chapter. Ignoring canon, making Lois a slayer, I didn't like it...until Clark showed up and I realized that it was actually an alternate universe. After that it grew on me quickly. I just found this story today and I like it!
As for the tentacled thing...I think that's a perfect spikism.
