So now I’m confused. Was Lois raped by those creeps or not?
I've obviously got some editing to do since, in review, I can understand how it might have been ambiguous.
In short, Lois was attacked and battered, but Clark got there before she was raped. When he arrived, she was beaten and bruised by the men and her hands and knees were torn up by the concrete, but she was not raped at this time.
She was, however, raped in the past.
I'll try to rewrite it so it's more clear.

“Mom, when it all happened and Lois was all hurt and bloody, I don’t know what came over me. I said some things that were rude and thoughtless. And now Lois is acting pretty mad. How do I make that right?”

He did? I thought he was pretty nice. Okay, I looked back at the last part. He wasn’t mean, but I can see how he thought that maybe Lois was upset.
I agree. I wanted to show how shook up Clark is. He's awkward and overly sensitive and he tends to hover a little bit over Lois.
Thanks.
