I'm wondering why you had him talk about a fortress of solitude? maybe I need more coffee and it was just a metaphor?
You've done such a wonderful job capturing the essence of a teenager - she seems so very life-like and believable. And heroic, which I love, too.
And the end, those last few little lines... wow! beautiful and oh so powerful. Got me sniffling and reaching for the Kleenex.
