I must admit ignorance here; what is a Satsuma?
Satsuma is the English name for a Mikan/Mandarin Orange. Using it in the story was a reference to Doctor Who.
In the DW episode "The Christmas Invasion", a newly regenerated Tenth Doctor used a satsuma to defeat the Sycorax leader. My first thought was to use a banana (as a salute to Woody as well as a reference to the DW epi "The Doctor Dances"), but felt the satsuma worked better.
