I’m glad you enjoy my attempts to at least acknowledge science in trying to solve the Superman’s power's problems.
I always think of Superman in terms of old-think and new-think. My definition of old-think Superman is that Superman being an alien and all of the powers (and what he does with them) is what makes him interesting. New-think is, in my mind, where Clark Kent and the humanity of being an alien and hero while trying to be a person with a real life is far more interesting. I am all about Clark Kent (and of course Lois) and to me Superman is only interesting from the perspective of Clark.
With that in mind, I felt that if I was going to contribute anything to the Superman universe, then I had to tackle the “possibility of children” issue first. How can you think about humanity and the human experience without considering the biological imperative of reproduction? This is particularly important once you have Lois and Clark married. If I was going to tackle that issue, then I had to deal with his biology. While I was there I decided to take my shot at his powers.
For my part, I believe that Lois would have ended up pregnant in S5 if it would have happened. At least, I hope they would have gone there.
As it turns out, I really am an engineer. I have degrees in both physics and engineering and I hope that I’m going to be able to tell the story in a way that doesn’t shame my training. I am glad that I seem to be achieving a “readable” story. I don’t think I have written a line of fiction since I was in high school and that was over 30 years ago. Since then, even in college, I have only written technical documents and reports.
Pam,
What to say. I’m really tickled that you have enjoyed my offering. Your stories have been among the most enjoyable that I have read and I am so happy to have the opportunity to contribute a story that you have (at least so far) found enjoyable.
I hope that where I am planning to take the story doesn’t disappoint.
Bob
