I'm still reading, and I'm trying very hard to like Lana. Unfortunately, I'm still not succeeding. Sorry!
I'm wondering what will happen to Lana, because Clark just falling out of love with her, when he seems to smitten at the moment, makes me think he's unreliable in the emotional stakes ... and I don't want to think that.
However, Lana might not be so nice as she pretends, so that would explain Clark becoming disillusioned with her later.
And, are the empty condoms a red herring? You mention we won't know exactly what happened to Lois for quite a while ... now pregnancy would show up in a few weeks ... so is it something worse?
Please pardon my 'thinking out loud'. You've certainly got me trying to work out what's going to happen in the rest of your story, which is a good thing.
I'm just going to have to be patient and allow you to reveal what you have in mind.
