Clark is clearly suffering from "super-fortio-phobia" (would that be passable Latin?). And since the superpowers he fears so badly emanate out of himself, he is an utter nervous wreck about them and about himself! Imagine being an arachnophobiac and sprouting spiders out of your body all the time!
