What he didn't understand was how difficult it would be to escape that role of the safe, platonic friend. He'd been Rachel-watching so long that watching was all he could do. Marty had been wrong. Sooner or later, Rachel needed to be pushed.
And it looks like Alan is willing to do the pushing.

I think Caleb may just have lost any chance he had with Rachel.
