Well, I definitely got a big kick out of Martha's almost going to jail. I could just see that. And I guess it's helpful for the story that she can forge.

I do have some niggling questions at the back of my mind having to do with Matthew.

Since he's a dare-I-use-the-word? clone of Lois and Clark, how will they explain the physical similarities to his adoptive parents, especially since both Martha and Jonathan have both commented on how much he looks like Clark?

I also don't like the idea that Clark is lying so easily. Yes, I know it's for his son...but Matthew is *his* son. So, is there no way to get around that?

Flying Doc Warner in is a good idea. Perhaps he can find a way to solve the dilemma. One thing I was thinking of was a young woman who had died recently in the Smallville area. Perhaps she could have "given birth" to Matthew.

Another thought. Could Clark say that he had given sperm to a sperm bank and someone (said dead person) had used it. Perhaps it was just a small place (like Doc Warner's office).

Sorry. Just thinking out loud.

But sometimes when I get involved in a story I start to predict which is a sign of a good reader who is interested in the story.

Hi Gerry,

Thanks very much for pointing out the possibility of the baby growing up to look like Clark, since Martha and Jonathan mentioned the similarities.

As this is a work in progress and the MBs are helpful in pointing out slight inconsistencies, I've gone back and rewritten that section a bit.

Martha and Jonathan now notice a 'little resemblance', not that the baby is the 'spitting image' of Clark when he was found.

I'm sure that the baby might not look too much like his father when he grows up. Not many kids are totally like their parents. wink

As to Clark being willing to go along with distortions of the truth to protect his son, I'm not too uneasy with that.

Clark was uncomfortable with being economical with the truth to protect his own identity, but he was prepared to misdirect because anything else would have put those he loved at risk.

I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but I do think he might be willing to live with misdirections if it means that his child will be safe and left in their care. When it comes to their children, I think parents are usually willing to go that 'extra mile'.

I'm sorry, Gerry, if this spoils your enjoyment of this fic, but I'm going to leave this part as I've written it.

Yours Jenni

Beautiful, Jenni.

clap I can see Clark lying to protect his family. In essence, he has to do it all the time as Superman to keep Lois, Jonathan, and Martha safe. He's never been comfortable with it, but sees it as a necessary evil. I think that he would come to see the fibs about Matthew the same way.

More soon, please?

I'm catching up, Jenni. Loved their initial, fragile optimism over keeping Matthew.

Love that the new Kryptonians are involved. After all they put Lois and Clark through, nice to see them wanting to 'give back.' Thus, a really original take on the baby's origins.

Also, I tend to think lying is a necessary part of Clark's life. Maybe he doesn't like it, but he's long since accepted it as necessary.

Can't wait to see where this goes!

Unfortunately, yes, lying is a part of Clark/Superman's life.

He looks at it as protecting the greater good.

This case is no different.

I look forward to how this plays out.

I'm sensing a lot of trouble coming for this little family, Kryptonians are still floating nearby!
Please post as soon as possible,
Simona smile
