I wasn't going to post this for a while, but a mis-paste on IRC let the cat out of the bag somewhat early. :p I wouldn't normally make a trailer for one of my own stories, but the idea for this one grabbed me and refused to let me go. So here it is: The Devil\'s Bargain WMP RP (I recommend saving it to your hard drive before playing; for some weird reason the music seems to be almost inaudible if you play it streaming. No idea why! :p ) Oh, and bonus points to anyone who can guess why both pieces of music on this are significant. Sara and Kae, you two are not allowed to play! Wendy

I'm automatically stumped, Wendy! I liked the quiet piano--completely illustrates the "less is more" adage in how well it worked with the mood, but I couldn't name any of the music. Anyone else?
Don't point. You make holes in the air and the faeries escape.

Awwww no fair!! I'd *so* win this game! On with the fdk... Have I mentioned that the "dead" Lois clip just KILLS me?! Because it does. Oh, how it hurts!!! The "everything's fine" clip montage is just so poignant! But sad at the same time because you *know* that they're living on borrowed time! I am?! I *really* have to reread this story now just to assure myself that everything turns out okay! Great job, Wendy!!! And if you even *think* of deleting WMM from your computer, there will be serious consequences!!!! Sara

Wendy this was really great The images of Lois are just beyond haunting. As I mentioned on IRC, this is one of the few stories by you I have not read yet, and it's been bumped to the top of my list as a result This trailer is one of the moodiest pieces I've seen recently -- very good, and definitely tugs at the emotions! I admit the music sounds incredibly familiar, but I have no earthly clue why Do tell!
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference.

I know, I know, I know!!! Okay, because you told me, but I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW!!!! Anyway, great trailer, Wendy! I can see why the Muse wouldn't let go of you with this one. The music, especially the piano at the end, makes the whole thing very atmospheric, and it clenches my gut that Clark is always on the line, having to make that choice between Lois's life and his own ethics. Poor Clark! Kaethel
- I'm your partner. I'm your friend. - Is that what we are? - Oh, you know what? I don't know what we are. We kiss and then we never talk about it. We nearly die frozen in each other's arms, but we never talk about it, so no, I got no clue what we are.

Thank you, guys! Again, I'm so glad that you enjoyed this. I just got the idea for the trailer and it grabbed me by the throat and refused to let me go. Diane, thank you so much for saying that this made you want to read the story! I can't think of a greater compliment. Now. The music. I'll identify the second piece - the quiet piano music - first. It's a 12-second introit (looped so it repeats) to an aria in Gounod's Faust - the aria is called Salut, demeure chaste et pure. The first piece, two extracts from which are used (at the beginning and then over the 'everything was perfect' sequence) is called La Piovra, by Ennio Morricone and Fausto Pappano. The connection? Faust. (Admittedly tenuous with the second piece). If you don't know the story of Faust - it's a German classical work - it's a tale in which Faust makes a bargain with the devil, the price of which is his own soul. And The Devil's Bargain is (very) loosely based on the story of Faust. Thank you! Wendy

Ooooooooooh. I can see that after catching up on all the trailers I've missed, I'm going to have to spend time catching up on all these intriguing stories too! Beautifully done, Wendy. Loved the music and the sense of growing menace. LabRat
