It's never too early for a Christmas fic
This story is a new idea I thought of. A revelation occurs (between Lois and Clark) due to a moment a song creates. You take a real song, put the words into the fic, but also have the reader click the link to the actual song so they can listen while reading it. For some, it might take away from the story but for others it might help enhance it.
I thought this would be an interesting thing to try. It has been awhile since I have posted a fanfic at all so I am a little nervous. Hopefully if the idea doesn't work out, you will just enjoy the story.
On a sad note, I regret to inform you all this will be my last post for awhile. Unfortunately I am in the process of transferring schools and have some family things that have to be attended to. If I get a chance, I will continue to "lurk" and read some of the stories I am actively following, but I won't be able to comment. Hopefully, I can return to these boards and mIRC soon. I will miss you all and thanks for all your encouragement and kind words.
Thanks to my BR Dave who has been waiting for me to post and the ladies on mIRC. You are all the best.
For Tom, thanks for making a "believer" out of me.
And without further babble...the story. Enjoy Believe Song ~~~~~~~~~
If You Just Believe This is a fluff piece inspired by the song ‘Believe’ by Josh Groban. I am in love with the holiday season and I hope this puts a smile on your face and gets you into the spirit of this time of year. Enjoy. This piece immediately follows Seasons Greedings.
The characters and song are not mine but the story is mine so please just read it and enjoy it, nothing more!

…The world in solemn stillness lay, To hear the angels sing As the final cords of the carolers faded away into the frosty air, Lois gazed up at Clark and then down at their joint hands. This was the link between them that made this all feel so right, that made this moment feel so special. Clark noticed a pair of eyes skimming him and staring at their united hands. He too looked down at the small, intimate gesture and stared right back up into two lovely brown eyes. Lost for a moment in their beauty, something white and fluffy at the window distracted those eyes away from him. A light snow had begun to fall and Clark smiled contently. This was their Christmas and their perfect moment and nothing was going to ruin it.

The pair stood frozen in time for what seemed like hours, just watching the snow with their heads resting against one another. The carolers had moved on to another part of the block and there was nothing but silence. It was almost like Metropolis was stuck in a tiny, peaceful, snow globe and all was right with the world.
Lois sighed, “That music was lovely.”
Clark straightened and gently turned to face her. His eyes sparkled and there was a huge grin on his face. “It was. I almost wished it could have lasted longer.”
“Well I have a surprising number of Christmas CD’s here…” Lois trailed off and started walking toward the direction of the stereo when a small force pulled her back. She forgot she was still holding Clark’s hand and now their fingers had somehow intertwined during their window watching.
Clark tenderly pulled her back and grabbed her other hand. “No, Lois. I meant this.” He shook both her hands gently to emphasize his point. “I want this to last longer, forever even.” Clark was surprised at his sudden burst of confidence but he wasn’t going to back down now. “Seeing your face light up tonight like that, it made me feel so alive. This is my favorite holiday but it has never meant more than it did this year, all because of you.”
Lois let out a small breath. It was the single most beautiful thing anyone had ever said to her. She looked down at the ground. “Oh Clark,” she whispered. Looking back into his eyes, she could feel fresh tears clouding up her vision. Lois opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t utter a sound, instead the tears leaked from her eyes onto her face. Clark was suddenly alarmed and pulled her into his arms.
“Hey, hey. What’s the matter?”
Lois buried her face in his jacket, trying to regain her composure. “Honestly nothing at all. I’m just so thankful you came.” She looked up and smiled through more tears. “I am just so touched by your words and compassion tonight. You too have given me a reason to love this holiday and remember what it’s all about.” Lois gazed deep into Clark’s eyes and made sure he understood why her emotions had overwhelmed her. “Just, thank you.”
Clark smiled and pulled her back into another loving hug. “Anything for you, best friend.” He squeezed her tight and pressed a light kiss on the mountain of curls that covered her head. He was just savoring the feeling of her in his arms and the magical evening that had brought them together.
Pulling away slowly, Lois and Clark both smiled and laughed softly. They could feel the energy passing between them and the spirit of the season filling the room. Clark gently brushed away a stray tear from Lois’s face and his grin brightened. Remembering that she had been crying just seconds before, her face turned bright red.
“Oh! My makeup must be a mess!” she gasped.
Clark shook his head, “You look perfect.”
Lois gave a lopsided grin and rolled her eyes, “Easy for you to say, you look fantastic tonight. I don’t think anything to you is going to be wrong.”
“Nope.” He gazed at her with a mischievous look in his eye. “Didn’t you say something about music before?”
“Well if you are still interested…”
“Yes, but I will find a song.” The pair finally let go and Clark walked over to Lois’s sound system. He didn’t look through her CD’s but instead turned on the stereo to radio mode. With a quick turn of the knob he found a station announcing their next song. Recognizing the piece, Clark beamed and turned the volume up.
Sleigh bells filled the room accompanied by a choir in the background. Clark made his way back to Lois as the first cords of the song rang though the room.
Children Sleeping,
Snow is softly falling,
Dreams are calling,
Like bells in the distance,“What song is this?” Lois asked.
“It's one of my new Christmas favorites.” Clark extended his hand to his partner. “Would you like to dance?”
“Of course, I would love to.”
Lois took Clark’s hand and he quietly guided her to the center of the living room. He placed one hand on her waist and kept a firm hold of her hand. Then he and Lois began softly swaying to the beautiful melody.
We were dreamers
Not so long ago
But one by one we,
All had to grow up,
When it seems the magic slipped away,
We find it all again on Christmas day,
Believe in what your heart is saying,
Hear the melody that’s playing,
There’s no time to waste, there’s so much to celebrate,
Believe in what you feel inside and give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe. “Clark, this is so beautiful,” Lois whispered. “This song is like a fairytale.”
“Like this moment?” Clark asked. He wasn’t sure how Lois would answer but Clark was hopeful that Lois was feeling the same magic he felt inside her soul.
Lois thought for a moment then smiled, “Yes, like this moment.” She placed both hands around Clark’s neck and pulled herself closer. She could smell his cologne, and all the natural smells that made up the man she loved.
She loved him.
It was at that moment Lois finally came to terms with her true feelings for Clark. The feeling coursed through the veins deep within her heart. Normally this revelation would scare her and make her feel vulnerable and weak yet tonight was different. Lois felt complete and safe with Clark. She knew he had feelings for her too and all she wanted to do right now was give him back that love in return.
“Clark, I have something I want to tell you.”
“Lois, listen to this next line first and then I am all ears.” They continued to dance as the song painted out beautiful images of life and love.
Trains move quickly
To their journey’s end
Destinations are where we begin again
Ships go on sailing
Far across the sea
Trust in starlight to get where they need to be
When it seems we have lost our way,
We find ourselves again on Christmas day,There was a very short musical interlude. Clark took this opportunity to push Lois and away from him, still holding onto her one hand, and then he twirled her back into his arms. They both laughed and smiled.
“So you really do know how to ballroom dance.” Lois smirked.
“No, that’s just some Kansas charm for you.” Clark’s eyes danced and Lois knew he was teasing her. Suddenly they became more serious, “Didn’t you have something to tell me?”
Lois looked down and shook her head. “Just let me listen to the song a little more and then I will tell you.”
Believe in what your heart is saying,
Hear the melody that’s playing,
There’s no time to waste, there’s so much to celebrate,
Believe in what you feel inside and give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.
If you just believe
If you just believe…The phrase repeated over, filling the room with rich color and vigor. The song itself seemed to make the Christmas decorations glow brighter and the atmosphere so much more content.
Clark dipped his head low to Lois’s left ear and whispered, “Don’t think about this moment, just believe.”
That was all the encouragement Lois needed. Instantly her lips were on his. At first the kiss was sweet and innocent but it quickly escalated to a passionate lip lock. They tasted each other with the tips of their tongues, enjoying the new and wonderful flavors that exploded in their mouths. After what seemed like hours, the kiss was broken. The couple looked at each other with adoration in their eyes and love in their hearts. Finally Lois spoke what was already understood.
“I love you, Clark. I really, truly, love you. Thank you for making this the best holiday ever.” She looked into Clark’s windows to his soul and pleaded with her own eyes to see that it was true love she was talking about. Not brotherly. Not the kind of love shared between two friends. Something more.
It was Clark’s turn to inhale a sharp breath. He closed his eyes for a second to process what had just happened. Lois just declared his love for him and all he wanted to do was to hold her close, sing and dance. He smiled to himself when he realized he was already doing two out of the three but he had yet to respond to Lois’s proclamation.
“Oh God, Lois. I love you too. You’re everything to me. Thank you for making this holiday for me too.” Clark brought Lois closer to him and sighed. “I know we have a lot to discuss, but let’s just finish this dance and enjoy tonight.”
“I couldn’t think of a more wonderful idea.” Lois leaned back into Clark’s chest as the final vocals of the pieces faded away. The dinner and the present from earlier were long forgotten and all that mattered was that Lois and Clark had received the best Christmas present ever, each other.
If you just believe…
Just believe…
Just believe…
