To catch up (if you need too) here is the link to the table of contents What Is True Parts 1-6 and Comments Part 7 By request this part is long, I must admit I don't have part 10 ready and I am going to try to have it but unfortunatly I have had some personal setbacks. I will get done even if I have to force myself too. Well enough babble, enjoy part 8 and please comment! From Part 7 She wanted a real kiss…Clark could barley breathe. The scene now seemed too perfect. He wanted to kiss Lois badly but he knew their problems wouldn’t be solved by lip locking. However, she did look perfect in the early morning light with the quilt wrapped around her like a gown. Clark’s brain knew better but his heart was in control. Lois had just fulfilled his fantasy and he intended to grant her request.
Clark took his hand and tucked Lois hair behind her ears. She inched closer placing one trembling hand on his knee and the other behind his neck. Clark thought she was going to pull him in but instead she began to nervously stroke his hair. He smiled and decided to take the next step. He began the slow drop to Lois’ lips, which began to part slightly at his decent. Their noses were now touching and they could feel the warm air pass between them. Clark caressed Lois’ cheek and closed his eyes and the porch door slammed opened.
Part 8 “Morning you two,” a cheery voice from behind said. The pair whirled around to see Martha Kent, dressed and ready for the new day ahead. “Did you get any sleep last night? You both look beat.”
Clark cleared his throat, “No, we didn’t.” Looking at his mom’s shocked expression he added “Lois and I had trouble sleeping so we have been out here.”
“All night?”
Lois nodded and Clark shrugged his shoulders.
Martha looked at her son, then at Lois unsure of what to say next. She believed now that they had been unable to sleep. Their eyes were somewhat puffy and red and it looked like Lois had tear stains on her face. She didn’t know if they were fighting again or distraught from last night but Martha did know they were about to kiss and looked very content in each other arms. She had intervened enough and it was time for Lois and Clark to make their own decisions about the next step in their relationship.
“Well,” Martha finally found her voice. “If you want some breakfast, it will be ready in about 10 minutes. Come when you are ready” Smiling, she walked back into the house, gently closing the door behind her.

The day went by quickly. The four went over after breakfast to help the Irgis tear down their farmhouse for the day. The inside of the barn had been cleared so all the group had to do was start hacking away at the foundation until it caved in. When it collapsed, all they could do was wait until the dump truck from town came to haul the pieces away. Once the truck arrived, Clark had a hard time watching the men, Wayne and his father take the pieces of his childhood away. Bit by bit, they cleared the broken barn until a few piles of lumber and ash remained.
Clark didn’t know why last nights fire upset him so much. There had been other fires that he helped with before in Smallville and worse, tornados but none affected him as much as the Irig fire. He thought it was probably because they were neighbors and it had been close to his own family.
His parents.
Lois.
Sometimes it was events like this that made Clark remember that they were only human. He understood that death was apart of life and that all things ended but he wasn’t ready for his parents to go yet. He would never be ready for Lois to go, in any way, shape or form. She was just so connected to him in every way possible, if Lois left, Clark would feel like a piece of him had died. Why couldn’t he just tell her that? Maybe it was fear of rejection or fear that Lois didn’t feel that same connection. The last 48 hours was such a whirlwind of emotion and so tiring. Clark realized that the tired part was more due to a lack of sleep then the events but it felt good to blame it on something.
Clark wasn’t the only one lost in thought. He looked out across the yard to Lois who was sitting on an old tree stump. She had her work gloves in her lap and she was hunched over, staring back at his house. Her hair blew around her face in the light breeze, giving her a natural look. Lois didn’t seem very aware of her surroundings, she was just tuned out to the rest of the world. It then hit Clark that Lois was a woman of actions and not just words. If she wanted the truth, Lois would always search for the hard facts and means to support it. That is why she was so unwilling to talk. She wanted Clark to answer her questions so she would feel comfortable enough to tell her feelings for him. Clark smiled and knew what had to be done.

Jonathan Kent had been carefully observing his son all afternoon. There were times Clark just stopped working and stared at Lois. He smiled, knowing that feeling all too well when he looked at Martha. Jonathan knew that Clark and Lois were having a rough time right now and he knew they could get through it. Those two were meant to be whether they knew it or not yet. Suddenly, there was a crash of lumber and a very tired looking Lois was sprawled on the ground. Jonathan quickly dropped his pile to help aid the young woman. As fast as he moved, Clark made it to her first.
“Hey, you okay?” Clark asked gently.
Lois grunted. “I’m so tired I can’t even see straight.”
“You alright?” Jonathan asked behind Clark
“Yes, yes. I’ll live” Lois tried to ease herself up but she was really fumbling with her footing. Clark grabbed her waist to support her up better. “I guess the load I took was too heavy.” Lois nodded to her pile of wood.
“I think you are just very tired. Why don’t you go back to the house and lay down? It’s almost all done and we can finish up.” Clark was about to throw off his work gloves and escort Lois to the house when Jonathan rested a hand on his shoulder.
“Son, I think your help is more need here,” Jonathan added with a wink. “I’ll take Lois home.”
Lois was handed from one Kent male to the other. She and Jonathan started to make their way slowly back to the house.
Martha came over to Clark, “Is she alright?”
“Yeah, just tired. Dad’s going to take her back to the farm.”
“Good, because I want to talk to you.” Martha smiled and linked arms with her son. Together they walked back towards the Irig home.
*************
“Lois, how is your family doing?”
“Oh, they're, you know, my family.” Lois was enjoying her walk back to the house with Jonathan. She never got to talk to the older male Kent one on one so she was treasuring the moment. “How’s the farm been?”
Jonathan chuckled at Lois’ attempt to converse with him “You know dear, I talk about other things besides the weather and the farm”, Lois blushed and he patted her arm “I’m just teasing you. Martha does the same thing sometimes.”
“She asks how the farm is going?”
“Yes, when she is teasing me about the five things I talk about.” Lois laughed and the pair continued their stroll across the dirt road up to the Kent farm yard. “You remind me a lot of Martha sometimes,” Jonathan continued. “The way you talk and act. Even the way you fight...”

“...with so much passion. Clark, women like Lois and I will always be tough to nail down. We just need patient, kind, men at our side to keep us sane. Sometimes we just can’t speak up first, we need you to.” Martha looked deep into her son’s eyes, trying to get her point across.
Clark sighed, “Mom, I know. But sometimes as patient as dad and I are...”
***
“..it’s hard to stand our ground. Clark knows as well as I do, when you two are on the warpath to get something done, we have to back off and let you have your space.” Jonathan stopped walking and turned to face Lois. “Our boy needs someone like you in his life. Someone with a strong will like yours needs to be at his side. You are the reason he is Superman and the person he is today. Clark is able to live his life for the first time without...”
***
“...fear. Embrace it Clark, don’t run from it. Don’t be fearful of what you can or can’t do. Be strong enough to just deal with things as they come.” Martha looked at her son’s face and knew she struck a chord. “I know you said your heart isn’t invulnerable, but with all that you do for others and Lois, it’s the strongest part of...”
***
"...you. He will always love you but you need to show him that you will too. It’s obvious you are a woman of action Lois, don’t treat love any different.” Jonathan smiled and opened his arms to embrace the young woman. Lois came willingly with tender tears in her eyes.
“Jonathan, thank you.” she whispered. “I think I should take my nap now, I have a lot to sleep on.” Lois stepped back from Jonathan and walked into the house, closing the door gently behind her.
***
“I love you Mom. Thanks.” Clark embraced Martha in a warm hug. “I think I am going to take a walk. I’ll be back later.”
“Take your time. Dinner is at 6:00, as always. I love you.” Martha released her son and gave him a gentle shove towards the dirt road. As she watched her son walk off she caught sight of Jonathan coming back to the Irig farm.
“How did it go?” Martha asked when her husband approached her.
Jonathan smiled and kissed his beautiful wife, “They’ll be fine. I just can’t wait till that girl is officially part of our little family. He wrapped his arms around Martha and they stared out into the distance, happy in each others company.
“Neither can I, Jonathan,” Martha breathed. “Neither can I.”

Lois lay in Clark’s bed, replaying the conversation she had with Jonathan over and over. He had been so understanding, not at all ignorant or pushy like her own father. He just wanted her and Clark happy and at peace with one another. The conversation had sealed the deal about her feelings for Clark but it still left the Superman equation hanging in the air. She had a ton of questions but was still afraid to ask Clark for the story. Lois was worried he would start accusing her again about not being direct with her feelings and they both knew where that path led.
A day ago if someone told her she would be madly in love with her best friend and find out he was also the local super hero, Lois might have sent that person to the nearest psychiatric ward. Today, it was the sanest thing she had ever heard. It was music to her ears. Ears that had been denying the truth for sometime now. Lois rolled on her side and looked out the window. The sky was starting to turn a deep shade of pink, signaling the end of another day. Since her arrival in Smallville, the whole world seemed to be getting more glorious with each passing day. Even though the Irig fire was a let down, the weekend had still been so...
“Perfect.”
Lois turned her head and saw Clark, handsome as ever in the late afternoon light. He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. He smiled at her before he spoke, “The sunsets here get more perfect every time I see them.” He paused before continuing, “How are you feeling?”
Lois flipped onto her back, “I’m better, just trying to sleep.”
Clark suddenly looked very embarrassed, “Oh, sorry. I just wanted to ask if you would like to come for a walk with me after dinner tonight.”
Lois smiled. She loved when he got that shy look in his eyes like a bad puppy. “With a face like that, how could I resist?” Lois watched his eyes change from relief to exhaustion. She cursed herself for forgetting how tired he was too. Shifting over on the bed, she made room for an extra body.
Clark’s body.
She patted the vacant spot next to her. “Kind men need their rest too.”
Clark’s eyes widened. He was about to refuse and give Lois her space but he remembered she was a woman of action, not just words. Clark finally complied and lay down next to her on his side. “Thanks,” he whispered. “I really needed this and it’s even better with you here.”
Lois gave him a 100 watt smile before inching into the cocoon of his chest. Clark wrapped his arms around her. They fell asleep quickly, finally succumbing to the sleep they both desperately needed.
*********
Dinner passed and Lois and Clark were left alone to rest. Martha and Jonathan didn’t see Clark come back to the farmhouse but they were no fools and knew very well where he was. The older couple felt that sleep would help those kids think straight. Or so they could only hope.
