Sparks of pleasure rushed through her as he kissed her with a passion that left little doubt how far he was from falling asleep. He sucked at her lower lip and explored her mouth with his tongue. She could feel his hunger, his need to be close to her that rivaled her own desire to feel more of him. Her hands found his chest and his arm. She was marveling at the feel of his soft skin and taught muscles under her finger tips.

Her hands wandered lower, tracing his firm abs and stroking his side. He made a hissing sound as she hit an obviously tender spot.

“Ouch,” he muttered.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered guiltily. “Should we stop?”

He shook his head, his dark eyes resting on her. “It’s okay. The skin is still a bit sensitive. Just be careful with my right side and we’ll be fine.”

She resumed kissing him with more caution, her fingers wandering back up to trace his chest. Her lips mourned the loss of contact as his mouth left hers. The hand that was cupping her cheek, tilted her head slightly. He rained small kisses on her cheeks, soft as the brush of a butterfly’s wing. His hand traveled lower, caressing its way down her neck toward her arm. Her skin tingled where he touched her. And his hand still wandered lower, briefly stopping at her hip, squeezing her lightly.

His hand once more moved upward, finding the hem of her pajama shirt. Dark eyes studied her face, quietly asking for permission. She gave him a brief nod, holding her breath before he finally slipped his hand underneath her shirt. His fingers caressed her skin in a light and feathery touch, leaving goosebumps in their wake. Her eyes fluttered shut as she savored the gentle pressure of his hand, the small circular motions he drew. A strange rush of excitement went through her as he dipped his thumb into her belly button. She’d never expected that being touched there might be sexy. But with Clark, every touch was new and exciting.

His lips found hers again, kissing her hungrily, while his hand moved further up until he found the swell of her breast. She heard him gasp as he realized that she was no longer wearing her bra. Lois opened her eyes, curious to see his reaction. His eyes had widened slightly. She could see him swallow, while his tongue ran over his own lips in a desperate attempt to moisten them.

Her hands roamed his chest, taking great care to stay clear of his aching side. She let them wander to the waistband of his pants. Suddenly, she couldn’t wait to explore more of his body. She wanted to elicit moans of pleasure from him and make him forget all about his reservations. But wasn't that rushing things? They'd barely begun kissing, and here she was, already thinking about undressing him.

He noticed her hesitation. "Is everything okay, Lois? Do you want us to stop?"

"N..no," she whispered, suddenly unsure what it really was that she wanted. "Am I going too fast?"

He frowned. "I don't know." He brushed a strand of hair back behind her ear, his dark eyes studying her intensely. "Does it feel like you are?"

She nodded meekly. "All we've ever done is kissing. I don't even know if you're okay with me touching you."

A faint smile twitched at his lips. “I love it when you touch me,” he said huskily. “It doesn’t make me uncomfortable if that’s what you’re afraid of. But I’d be happy if we could go a bit slower. I want to savor every moment of this. I still feel like this is some weird, wonderful dream. Don’t make me wake up too soon.”

Lois shook her head. “You’re not going to wake up.”

“I sure hope not,” Clark said roughly.

His hand slid toward her neck and he pulled her closer, capturing her lips with a deep, longing kiss. Her doubts just dissipated in the fierce passion of his kiss, the gentle probing of his tongue and the heat of his mouth that set her on fire. Lois’ eyes fluttered shut as she gave herself over to pure sensation. She moaned in protest as his lips left hers, but he kissed his way down her cheek and toward her neck.
Lois wished she had picked a different kind of sleeping attire, something with a deep plunging neckline that wouldn’t feel awkward to remove. Something with straps that he could brush off her shoulders. She moaned again, this time in frustration.

His lips left her skin and he looked up, startled.

“Don’t stop,” she begged.

His lips split in a grin and he resumed nuzzling her neck. Once more she felt his hands slide underneath her shirt. His thumb was stroking her gently. Lois’ breath caught in anticipation, hoping that he would do so much more.

Once again, he stopped kissing her. “Lois? What’s the matter? You seem so tense. Don’t you like what I’m doing?”

Her eyes fluttered open and with a pang of guilt, she saw his concerned expression. She wanted to reassure him.

“No, Clark.”

His concern turned into an expression of utter dismay.
Lois cringed as she realized what she’d just said and how it must sound to his ears. She cringed at her stupid mistake. Some writer she was.

Lois reached for his arm as he turned on his back to give her some space. “Oh, no, no, no, I’m sorry. That wasn’t what I meant at all. I do like what you’re doing, very much so. I just wish…” Her heart was hammering in her chest. How was this so difficult? She took a deep breath, trying to work up all the courage she could muster. “I just wish you’d kiss me where your thumb was just stroking me.”

His eyes widened. He opened and closed his mouth a few times, before he found the strength to speak. “You’d… you’d really want that?”

The dismay in his eyes was replaced by a dark gleam that sent shivers of anticipation down her spine, fuelling her desire for him. With trembling hands he pushed her shirt up slowly, almost reverently. Lois felt her heart beating in her chest, so madly as if it wanted to knock its way out. She lifted her upper body, helping him remove the shirt. She’d never been this excited to have a man undress her. But there was also a flicker of fear burning in her chest. Would he like what he saw?

Once her shirt was gone, Clark stared at her mesmerized. She felt self-conscious as she lay before him, half naked. She breathed shallowly, waiting for him to do or say anything. He ran his tongue over his lips a few times, as if they had become dry all of a sudden.

“You’re so beautiful,” he rasped.

His hand trembled as he reached out to touch her.

“Kiss me, Clark,” she urged him.

He smiled hungrily and lowered his head until his lips made contact with her skin. He kissed her with endless patience, his lips exploring her body slowly. His gentle kisses gradually turned more and more heated. Tender caresses fueled their desire until their bodies joined in careful lovemaking.

When they were both spent, Lois sank into Clark’s arms and he wrapped her into a firm embrace.

“That was amazing,” he said hoarsely.

“Better than that,” she replied, a silly grin on her face that she knew would remain there for a long time.

She could feel his smile against her cheek. He sounded drowsy as he spoke again. “I love you.” She heard his breathing even and wondered if he had fallen asleep already. “So much.”

Lois looked at Clark. His eyelids were already drooping. A sheepish smile appeared on his lips. “Sorry,” he mumbled.
She slid off of him. ”No need to be sorry. You need the rest. Will you hold me until you fall asleep?”

“Uh…huh,” he whispered.

She kissed his cheek and wrapped her arm around his broad chest, snuggling against his side.

“Alway….” The word died on his lips as his eyes closed and he started to breathe evenly.

***

Clark was unable to stop smiling. He'd had the most wonderful of dreams. Golden rays of sunlight were caressing his skin, chasing away any lingering aches. He didn't open his eyes, reveling a bit longer in the dream that had Lois' arm resting on his bare chest. Her body was snuggled against his side, her chest rising and falling with every breath she took. He could even smell the faint scent of her shampoo, intermingled with her very own body fragrance. It was intoxicating. He could get used to waking up like this, with Lois by his side.

Clark was pretty sure that, if Trask would try to taunt him now, he’d be able to just laugh in his face. He wrapped his arm around Lois’s shoulder squeezing it lightly, surprised how strong his imagination still was that she felt so real. His eyes fluttered open. With a start, he realized that, once again, he hadn’t been dreaming.

Lois was actually in his arms, her head resting on his shoulder. The blanket had slipped to her chest, revealing the creamy skin of her arms, shoulders and just a teasing amount of her cleavage. His breath caught. Clark was acutely aware of every inch of bare skin that touched his body.

Images of kissing her last night popped into his head and the tender lovemaking that had followed. For a moment, he lost himself in those memories. A tear slipped down his cheek, and impulsively, he placed a kiss in her hair. He had never thought he could feel like this, so happy and whole.
A low moan escaped Lois' throat as she stirred beside him.
She blinked into the light and a gorgeous smile appeared on her lips. ”Good morning, handsome.”

“Good morning,” he echoed, not sure what else to say. There was so much he wanted to tell her, but right in this moment his mind seemed completely blank.

“How are you feeling?” she asked.

“I’m fine,” he replied. “Wonderful, actually.”

A frown appeared on her forehead and she slid the blanket off his chest to reveal his formerly bruised abdomen. Lois ran her finger across his belly as if she didn’t quite trust her eyes. His skin had returned to its normal olive color. Did her frown mean that she hadn't believed he was feeling better? Or was it something else?

Still, her hand was caressing him lightly. Clark watched her with a mix of amusement and breathless anticipation of where else her hand might wander. Already, he felt his desire for her stir again.

But with a start, he realized that his powers had also returned to him, running through his veins with almost normal intensity. The sun had worked his magic. As she touched him, Clark’s senses were flooded with all sorts of impressions of the lovely woman beside him. The way her fingers traced his skin, every minute movement she made. The whiff of her breath in his face, carrying the faint scent of last night’s chocolate dessert. Her heartbeat sounded like music to his ears. His worries faded to the back of his mind.

“Are you back to normal?” she asked.

Clark winced, her words ringing in his ears, because he’d been focusing on those quieter sounds she made. He suppressed the urge to clutch at his ears, afraid that would only serve to scare her. It certainly frightened him - getting lost in his sensations like that. He made a conscious effort to suppress the unease in his belly.

“Almost.” He nodded. “I don’t think I’m quite back to a hundred percent, yet.”

She hadn’t missed his discomfort, though. “What’s the matter? Are you still in pain?”

“No,” Clark bit his lip and gave her a slightly sheepish smile. “Actually, I was listening to your heartbeat.”

A sudden rush of guilt went through him as he admitted to eavesdropping. It seemed silly, after all, they’d made love just a few short hours ago. Things couldn’t possibly get more intimate than that. Still, he couldn’t help the notion that he’d done something wrong.

She laughed. “You did what?”

“I listened to your heartbeat,” he repeated quietly. “It’s…s..soothing.”

Clark blinked in confusion. Had he really been about to say sexy? Could a heartbeat be sexy? His hormones surged. He stifled a low groan of frustration, annoyed by his renewed inability to think straight when she was near him.

He tried to calm his own racing heart. “When you spoke that sounded to me like a learjet was flying through your bedroom. I’m sorry for invading your privacy like that. It won’t happen again if you don’t want me to do that.”

Lois kissed his cheek and once again, he marveled at the intensity of the sensation. Being in her arms, kissing her and being kissed had felt wonderful the night before. But with his powers back it was as if all those things had happened in a black and white world. Now the color was back with a vengeance. It was overwhelming, amazing. But as his emotions were spiraling higher, Clark also felt the anxiety creeping back into his heart.

Lois finished nuzzling his check with a soft kiss on his lips. “You can stop worrying. I don’t mind at all. But listening to my heartbeat seems like a pretty boring pastime.”

Clark shook his head and his voice took on a husky tone. “Nothing about you could ever be boring.” He let his hand run across her arm, being extra careful to caress her lightly. "I'm sorry for falling asleep on you, yesterday. I wish I’d been able to hold you a little longer."

Lois brushed back the stubborn lock of hair that always seemed to hang on his forehead.

“You were tired,” she said sympathetically. “There really is no need to be sorry about anything, Clark. That was the best night of my life.”

He blushed. “For me, too.”

His heart constricted, as he realized - though it was true in a way - it didn’t do her justice at all. She was so much more to him. This one night of passion was just one small aspect of their relationship.

He shook his head. “Come to think of it, the best night of my life was the one you came checking on me after you’d seen me collapsing in front of the Daily Planet."

Lois opened her mouth in surprise. “You call that the best night of your life?”

She sounded incredulous, and from the look on her face he could tell that the events of that night were replaying in her head. Clark had to admit that, given what had happened, it really seemed odd to try and find anything positive about that night. But it had changed his world completely, turned it upside down and had given him hope where before there had only been emptiness.

“It was,” Clark said emphatically. "That night and the night you left your window open for me."

He gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. As he loosened his fingers, he realized what he'd just been doing without wasting too much thought on what might happen to her. His heart was pounding heavily in his chest. Clark threw a furtive glance at her to check for injury or any sign of discomfort. He let out a slow breath of relief as he found her unharmed. Only as he looked into her slightly puzzled face, did it occur to him that he'd been about to say something else.

He cleared his throat, trying to pull himself together. “I believe I fell for you pretty quickly after meeting you. But I’d never have acted on it, if you hadn’t forced me out of my hiding place. I owe you so much. I can’t tell you what it meant to me that you let me into your life.”

She gave him the most wonderful of smiles and placed a kiss on his chest that sent sparks of pleasure through his body.

Lois’ eyes were full of warmth and love. “When those elevator doors opened and I first looked into the barrel of your gun, I thought I was going to die. I couldn't have been more wrong. Meeting you wasn’t the end of my life but the beginning.”

She inched a bit higher and pressed her warm lips to his cheek. Clark felt the heat radiating off her, flooding his senses with the most incredible sensations. How could one pair of lips be so silky, wet and exciting? He closed his eyes, savoring the feel of her hot mouth on his skin, and the flutter in his belly her kisses evoked. His own lips were tingling so badly with the need to kiss her back.

His heart swelled. He was so blessed to have her. Even though he’d acted increasingly stupid, she’d never given up on him. He didn’t want to imagine where he’d be now, if he hadn’t met her, how sad his life would be without her.

“There is only one thing I regret,” she said, a hint of mischief tinting her voice.

His heart seemed to stop, despite the playful tone of her voice. With bated breath he waited for her to say something else, terrified that she regretted rushing into intimacy after all. He didn’t want to think about losing her. It would be so easy to destroy what they had - just one stupid mistake, and everything could be lost to him forever - and he was well aware that he’d pushed her a lot these few days, almost too much. But she hadn't sounded like she was resenting him, had she?

Clark tried to calm himself and use that same playful tone. “And what would that be?”

Lois grinned. “That we can never tell anyone how we met.”

Clark couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re incredible.” He pulled her into a firm embrace, once more realizing in the last possible moment how easily that touch might be too firm.
He loosened his grip. “Have I ever told you how much I love you?”

Lois nodded against his shoulder. "You told me yesterday. With every kiss and caress and even the more lunkheaded actions you took." She whispered another kiss against his cheek.

Clark cringed. "Yeah, sorry about that."

He heaved a sigh. His more lunkheaded actions, the ones that had led him up to this point, waking up in Lois' arms after an amazing night. Even though it had all played out well, he wasn't quite sure how he now felt about his decision to expose himself. He hadn't hurt Lois, which was the most important thing. And he'd proven to himself that he could offer her a relationship with all that entailed, even if his powers might turn out to be an obstacle. But part of him wished he'd taken more time to explore the wonders of intimacy with her, because he felt he'd have enjoyed that journey with her.

Her chuckle pulled him out of his musings. "Don't dwell on it, Clark. You're welcome to say it again. As often as you like."

He took her hand in his, mindful of their fragility.

“I love you," he repeated solemnly.

“I love you, too," she replied.

They shared another long kiss, not quite as heated as the night before, but no less intense. It was everything he longed for, each gentle brush of her tongue helping to heal the deep cuts in his soul. Part of him wished that he never had to stop kissing her, that he could lose himself in her arms and never feel anything but her love and affection. His desire for her flared up brightly.

But more than ever he was also painfully aware of the strong surge of his powers running so very close underneath the surface. That hadn't been a problem the other night.

Lois broke the kiss, her eyes resting on him with an intensity that took his breath away. She ran her finger along his cheek. There was something wistful about her expression, that and the same kind of frown he'd seen earlier.

"It's not going to happen again anytime soon, is it?" she asked quietly.

He stared at her, slightly confused. "What is not going to happen again?"

"This," she pointed first at him and then at herself.

"Us...making love. I mean it's okay. I was kind of expecting that."

Though she tried to hide it, Clark could see her disappointment. His heart constricted and he tried to swallow down the lump that was suddenly in his throat. The last thing he wanted was to see her sad. He longed to kiss her, to clear every doubt in her mind how much he wanted her. But there was still the problem with his now almost-back-to-normal powers.

"Lois, I...I'm sorry," he said with a heavy heart. "I know this wouldn't be a problem if I was just a regular guy."

He sat up, beginning to turn away from her, because staying with her suddenly hurt too much. But he soon stopped himself, knowing that running out on her now wouldn’t solve any problems. And it was going to hurt her even more. She didn’t deserve that kind of pain. He looked back at her and saw that she, too, had sat up. Her eyebrows were furrowed. He gave her an awkward half smile that he hoped would serve as an apology.

She laid a hand and his shoulder and gave him a firm shake of her head. "Don't go down that train of thought, Clark. I'm glad you're not a regular guy. I don't want you to be regular! I want you to be just as you are. I want this guy who works himself into the belly of a retirement home to reveal the ugly story of suffering and profit. I want the guy who risks everything to get an evil psychopath arrested. I want the guy who went through hell and has managed to retain his kind heart. I want you."

Clark cast his eyes down self-consciously. He didn't know what to say, his voice refusing to obey him.

Once again she ran her hand down his cheek. "I’ll gladly wait until you’re ready, because I know you’re worth every moment of that wait.”

He closed his eyes, her words soothing his aching heart. But with his enhanced senses, he also noticed the slight stutter to her heart. He heard the faint sigh that hadn’t been meant for his ears. Her disappointment radiated off her so strong, he could almost smell it.

“But I can tell that you’re sad,” he whispered softly.

She hung her head. “I admit that I’d been hoping fate would allow me one more time to be with you this way. It was - everything I’d been hoping for and so much more. But I can feel you’re tensing up again. You’re still afraid that you might hurt me, aren’t you?”

Clark could only nod. Suddenly, there was an awfully tight knot in his stomach. He didn’t want to disappoint her, he didn’t want to make her sad. She was supposed to be happy, and now she wasn’t, all because of him.

“That’s okay,” she reassured him. “It’s okay if we wait. Unless you want this to be a one night stand, that is.”

“Lois, I would never,” he muttered, appalled. “This is forever for me! You…you do know that, don’t you?”

“I know, Clark,” Her eyes twinkled. “But it’s good to hear you say it.”

Clark felt like fainting with relief as he realized that she’d been pulling his leg. “You really don’t mind? I mean, if we were a normal couple…”

“If we were a normal couple, you wouldn’t be able to take me flying tonight. So that’s a good thing, isn’t it?” She winked at him and he felt a flutter of excitement in his belly as he thought about taking her flying again. He almost missed that she continued to talk to him. “And we’d been planning on waiting anyway, hadn’t we? Maybe it's even for the best. I mean, we get a second chance to explore intimacy again, slowly. Let's just think about yesterday as our almost-first time."

Clark raised his brows skeptically. "There was nothing 'almost' about that first time."

She chuckled. “I guess not.” She took his hands in hers. “What I’m trying to say is - let’s not dwell on what we can’t have. Let’s just make the most of what we do have. I’m going to Perry first thing tomorrow and show him your article. And if he doesn’t hire you on the spot, I’m going to hand in my resignation.”

His eyes widened. “You don’t mean that.”

“I totally mean that,” Lois replied, full of conviction. “And when we’re done with Perry, we’ll seek out Trask and tell him to take a hike and leave you in peace.”

The laughter that had wanted to burst from his chest remained stuck in his throat. He didn’t want Lois anywhere near Trask.

Clark’s lips became a tight line. “And what do you suppose we do with Trask? Kill him? You know that I’m not going to do that, Lois. I couldn’t. That’s not how I work.”

Her expression softened. “I know, Clark. But somehow, we’ve got to chase away his shadow, or you’ll never be free.”

“It’s a big shadow to chase away,” he said quietly.

“And what if you revealed your powers to the world?” she asked, her face, her whole body really, suddenly coming to life as if she’d just had an epiphany. “Not as some shadow firefighter, but as a larger-than-life hero? You could wear a costume and do all the amazing things you’re capable of. You could save so many people - and everyone would see that there is no need to be terrified of you.”

Clark stared at her, completely taken aback. His heart was pounding in his chest, twisting with fear at the mere prospect of anyone else but the woman in front of him finding out about his abilities. But there was also that tiny spark of excitement, the quiet voice of hope that made an effort to be heard among the agonized screams of terror inside his soul. And he wanted so badly to focus on that sense of hope and get rid of all the fear consuming him. What would his life be like, if he’d be able to help - really help - instead of slipping into the shadows at the first sign of trouble.

It was a fantastic dream. And he badly wanted to believe it could come true. And maybe it could. Because he was with Lois, had found a friend in her, an ally, had made love to her. So many things that had seemed absolutely impossible just six months ago, had come true. So, why shouldn’t this become true as well? With Lois it seemed, everything was possible.

“You don’t need to say anything, now, Clark,” she said softly. And once again, he felt her comforting hand touch his arm. “I know you’re scared and you have every right to be. Just - think about the option, will you?”

He nodded, his voice so hoarse it was barely a whisper. “I can’t… right now. But I’ll think about it, I promise."

Lois flung herself in his arms. “That’s all I’m asking.”

Before Clark knew what was happening, her lips were on his again. And the terror and anxiety that were holding his chest in a steely grip faded, flowing from him like water from a sieve. He melted into her embrace, lost himself in her kiss. His muscles gave way, mellowing under the touch of her hands stroking his arms and back. He sank back onto the bed, pulling her with him.

His own hands explored her skin, feeling every miniature rise and indentation of her goosebumps. The small hairs on her arms were tickling the pads of his fingers. Clark closed his eyes, committing every inch of her skin to memory. She felt so incredibly soft in places, like satin or silk under his touch. But there were also somewhat rougher spots, never coarse, just different and exciting.

Clark sensed the whiff of her breath in his face. He inhaled her unique scent, his mind wandering somewhere between endless flower fields. There were traces of lavender and roses, he thought. An underlying scent of chocolate that he also tasted on his tongue as it slipped into the silky cave of her mouth.

Once again, his ears were drawn to the enticing rhythm of her heart and the almost inaudible moans that escaped from deep within her throat. His world had narrowed to the woman in his arms, the soft sounds she made. Gone was the loud and troubling world that always seemed to mock him with the things he couldn’t have.

He did have everything that he’d ever wanted. A woman he loved, a place where he could be himself without fear of discovery or retribution, a place where he felt he wasn’t the stranger he’d been all his life. A place where he could let go.

And so he did let go.

He let go of the need to keep his powers in check, giving himself over to pure sensation. His strength didn’t surge, quite the opposite in fact. It seemed to have left him completely, not in that agonizing pins and needles way that came with exposure to the green crystal. It was more like a comfortable heaviness that had settled on him now that he was completely at ease. And strangely, incomprehensibly, he felt both heavy and light at the same time.

Clark kissed Lois with abandon. He never wanted for this moment to end. Part of him was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to retain this kind of hope, this deep sense of belonging in his chest, if he broke that kiss. But he felt Lois pull back, and much as he hated that, he knew that he had to let her go.

“Clark?” she whispered. There was a slight hitch to her voice that worried him.

“Yeah?” he replied warily.

His eyes fluttered open and he looked into her lovely face. Her lips were swollen from kissing, her cheeks flushed. She bit her lip and cleared her throat, uneasiness radiating from her. He felt the first warning signs of a rush of panic, making his heart stutter. What if she-? Clark’s breath quickened and he made a conscious effort to calm it. She loved him, she wasn’t afraid of him and she didn’t resent him for who he was or what he’d done in the past. Once again, Trask wanted to crawl out of that dark corner in Clark’s mind to taunt him, but Clark mentally slammed the door in Trask’s face.

Her voice was cautious. “Please - don’t freak out, but you’re floating again.”

Clark gave her a shy smile. “I know.”

She stared at him, obviously puzzled. “You know? Uh…that’s…that’s…”

“Do you mind?” he asked quietly. “I can take us down if it bothers you.”

She blinked. “It doesn’t bother me - I just thought it would -”
“Freak me out again?” He finished her sentence, feeling incredibly sheepish all of a sudden. “It might sound odd to you, but I'm doing it on purpose this time. I just…uh… found out that if I embrace my powers instead of fighting them, they don’t fight back - if that makes any sense.”

A smile appeared on her lips. “I don’t claim to be an expert on your powers, but maybe it does make sense. Didn’t you tell me that your parents managed to help you control your powers without punishing you?”

“They did.” Clark heaved a wistful sigh. “I guess I kind of forgot about that - with everything that happened since then. When I was a kid - I thought that my mom had been scared of my powers, too. But she was just afraid because she knew that those powers meant she was going to lose me.”

His throat tightened and his heart clenched with the same kind of pain he’d felt when he’d been shipped out of his parent’s home and into a world that had been cold and void of love. It had been easier to forget about love all together than constantly agonizing over what he’d lost. He’d caved under the fear of people who’d known next to nothing about him. And he’d adopted their fear as his own, and had been convinced that his powers were something to be scared of.
And it was true that they could be terrible - if he let them. That was his decision. But he’d choose hope over destruction any time.

Lois wiped a tear off his cheek. Her eyes were full of worry. “Are you okay, Clark?”

He nodded, blinking back another tear that threatened to run down his cheek. “Not yet,” he said quietly. “But I’m beginning to think that I will be. Can you be patient with me until then?”

Her lips followed the wet trail his tears had left, kissing them away slowly. “I’m not the most patient person, but I think for you I’m going to have to make an exception. On one condition - though.”

He traced her cheek with his thumb down to her lips, enjoying the feel of her incredibly smooth skin under his touch. “And what would that be?”

A mischievous glint appeared in her eyes. “I get to call you lunkhead every time you behave like one.”

He chuckled. “Fair enough.”

She smiled. “Okay. Then kiss me, before I have to call you that.”

Lois didn’t need to ask him twice. He captured her lips with his in a long, hungry kiss. How was it possible that she seemed to taste better with every kiss they shared? There was the faint hint of salt his tears had left, but also something so sweet that it just had to be addictive. Clark closed his eyes, just concentrating on the sensations she created in him. The sparks of desire that skittered all across his body. And his hunger for her just seemed to increase after he’d gotten a taste of her.

He let his hands wander across her body, recalling how wonderful she felt under his fingertips. And he enjoyed the gentle caresses of her hands on his skin, the exciting tingles she left wherever she touched him.

And once again, they lost themselves in the heat of the moment, making gentle love until Clark was no longer able to tell where he ended and she began. It was intense and wonderful and so much more than he’d ever expected to experience. As the last waves of pleasure subsided, Clark sank down on her, burying his face in the crook of her neck and placing a kiss on her skin.

“I love you,” he mumbled. “I can’t tell you how much.”

He rolled off of her and pulled her into a firm embrace.

“I love you, too,” she whispered. “I wish you’d never let go of me.”

He chuckled. “I probably won’t. All I’ve got to wear are some underpants. I need you to cover me.”

Her eyes narrowed. “I’m pretty sure that you still have decent pants and a jacket. Just don’t let any ladies see that chiseled chest of yours or they’ll pin you down and have their way with you.”

Clark winked at her. “My powers are back, I’m pretty sure I could fend them off.” He placed a kiss on her cheek. “I would never want anyone but you, honey. But if it pleases you I could fly home really fast.”

She pursed her lips. “Only if you dress up for another date! You still owe me one night at the movies.”

He smiled at her and cupped her cheek. “I guess I do. If you still want to risk another date with me, given our track record.”

She ran her hand down his neck, pulling him toward her. “Alway-”

Clark broke her off with a kiss so intense that the world just seemed to stop. And he didn’t mind at all, because right in this moment, everything was just as it should be.

The End
