*lower lip quivers* *tears fills eyes* DAVE!! You... You... You SQUISHED my HEART!! Beneath your shoes! In such a good way, too! Oh wow. I adored this. I wondered why he seemed more composed. Awww! And I think you should make bets more often! I bet you will!
Mmm cheese.
I vid, therefor I am.
The hardest lesson is that love can be so fair to some, and so cruel to others. Even those who would be gods.

Dave, Oh, this is just... well, you squished my heart beneath your shoes, too! Over and over. This breaks my heart, it just gets to the heart of this issue so beautifully and truthfully. Filled with numbers and figures and reams of data that he couldn't understand. Couldn't begin to understand but for the way they blurred behind his closed eyelids. For what he knew them to mean.
No.
They meant no. It's just amazing how you start with this piece of paper filled with words, medical terms, numbers. Cold facts. And from that show how much cold hard facts, words, numbers... can hurt. Those four words "No. They meant no" are just so amazing. And then what follows - what "no" means to him.... it's heartbreaking. Really, truly heartbreaking. You've written this so sensitively and beautifully. Fantastic story, Dave. As usual!! ~NICOLE

Cover the raw patches, just enough for him to be strong for her. Isn't that just so Clark. He's devastated, but his first thought is that he needs to be strong enough for her. Dave, you're something else. You just keep doing this to me!

*counts number of replies so far...* #12 Shameful of me, really. Dave? This is so much more than I asked for. Filled with numbers and figures and reams of data that he couldn't understand. This one belongs in the Hall of Fame. Thank you. Really. Mel says she's sorry, btw. :p Sara (who wonders, for the sake of Dave's fan club, if she should wager another bet... )

Hi,
Very short, yet said everything, and it would explain why Clark was so composed when he returned to the Planet to tell Lois.
You brought tears to my eyes.
Yours Jenni

Well... wow. Needless to say, this wasn't the easiest story to write and fear of the general reaction to it made it a story that wasn't the easiest to share either. But... wow. Thank you all for the wonderful feedback. I honestly was expecting to be told to take a flying leap, but it's fantastic to be proven wrong. <g> I'd really like to say something about everything that was said in here, but I'm running short on time, so I'll contain myself... mostly... You SQUISHED my HEART!! Beneath your shoes! Mission accomplished. My first post here, and it's FDK Hey, ezym! Welcome to the boards and thank you so much for the fdk. Hope you'll enjoy yourself while you're here. Heart squisher! That was the saddest thing... ::smacks Dave:: It was beautiful! And it made me want to cry. Cry, and hit you. ::smacks Dave:: Good job! Thank you... *hides in the corner* ... I think. I wasn't really aiming for tears when I wrote this, but... again, wow. I have to... just... thank you, to everyone who let me know how this made them feel. And, as for those bets... we'll see.

No! I'm not going to cry. No!! Lost the battle, obviously. Dave, this was heart wrenching.
Lois: Well, I like my quirks. I think they make me unique. Clark: You certainly are unique.
Clark: You're high maintenance, you know that? Lois: But I'm worth it!

Oh, wow! Why did I take so long to read this? Thank you, thank you, thank you, for giving us this insight into Clark's emotions when he got Dr Klein's news. This was my favourite aspect of The Family Hour - and DC surpassed himself, IMO, when he acted out Clark's late-night wistful gazing at his parents' crib. Never was so much said by so few words and so little movement. Anyway, thank you again for this additional window into Clark's emotions. Yvonne
