Alright everyone, gather round: It's time for the
Great FDK Scavenger Hunt!
The Rules are as follows:
I will give you an item/concept/whathaveyou. You must find a fic that contains this item and leave an FDK post.
If the fic has multiple chapters, you only need to comment on one. Preferably the most relevant one.
How old or recent the fic is does not matter. (Except for scoring; see below).
Whether a fic is complete does not matter. (WIPs welcome)
Where the fic is hosted does not matter. (Ao3, FF.net, and someone's old Geocities page are all fair game).
Fandom DOES matter: only fics based on L&C:TNAoS are eligible.
If, and only if, the story has no pre-existing place for FDK (such as a story only found on the LnC archive), you may start a new thread for it yourself.
Your post must: 1. Mention this scavenger hunt (links preferred but not mandatory) 2. Quote a line or passage which proves that this fic contains what you're looking for 3. Mention something about the fic: this IS an FDK challenge, after all.
YOU MAY NOT tag a fic that someone else has already gotten to. If the challenge item is "sentient teddybears" and someone has already posted their FDK Challenge post on "Superman vs Teddy Ruxpin" (note: example title only, probably not a real fic), then you cannot claim the same story. You may, however, claim any sequel or prequel, etc., if it also qualifies.
YOU MAY NOT tag your own fic. Giving yourself FDK is just silly.
Multiple entries will only be allowed AFTER nine participants have reported in. This unlocks the Free-for-All.
When you have tagged your fic, come back here and post what it is. Links preferred if you can.
Questions may be posted here also, or you can come bother me on the Discord if you'd rather.
***
Okay ready? Since this is the inaugural one, let's start with something easy:
Find a Fic which involves TIME TRAVEL

Oh yes, Scoring:
This challenge officially ends on May 31st 2024, so only FDK left by then will garner points. You get:
10 points for being the first one to report back here with a tagged fic.
5 points for being second.
3 points for being third.
1 point for participating (i.e. Fourth response and on).
10 points for finding the oldest fic (final tally May 31)
2 points for finding the most recent fic (post date of most recent part posted by May 31)
10 points for Most Obscure Source
20 points for having the author reply to your comment
5 points for triggering new FDK posts from others on a comment thread whose last reply was older than one year. (these new posts must be also be posted by deadline for this achievement to count).
5 points for having your own fic tagged. (Only counts if you're, y'know, participating in the challenge.)
10 points for leaving a DarthEvie-style FDK post with line-by-line commentary having more than 3 quotes from the fic.

Hi Queenie! What a fun idea! My first entry: Home: Circle of FateNow, I could start and go for many more. And maybe I will, but I don't want to rob the other FoLC of their chance of leaving fresh FDK and there's already a bunch of FDK on many of the time travel stories I could mention. spoiler: the archive spreadsheet has a time travel tag, I believe. And there might be a curated time travel category on the archive, too, for the early years. Michael

OK, not made it among the first three (I'll blame the time-zones), but no big deal, participating is everyting. So, I decided to trying to get the Most Ancient Fic points and chose a fandom classic: Irene Dutch's "Firestorm" from 1999. You go here: http://lcfanfic.com/stories/1999/html/firestor.htmlor here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35356177(the latter link contains the FDK comment) EDIT: OK, and here's a quote to prove th estory qualifies: QUOTE "All right, young lady. You told the receptionist that you needed to speak to me about Superman. Please go ahead." Lee took a deep breath. "Dr. Klein, you're going to think I'm crazy, but … I'm from the future. " He started to laugh. "How'd you get here - by bicycle?" "No, by time machine of course," Lee retorted. "Please Dr. Klein. Hear me out before you have security throw me out." "All right. I'll listen, if you promise to leave quietly when you're done." "Dr. Klein, that's a promise I won't have to keep. You're not going to want me to leave in a couple of minutes." "We'll see. Please go ahead with your … explanation." -- That should do it.

And, To my surprise, I actually got a reply from the author to my FDK and she was super excited about getting a comment it seems. So that's one success for the challenge. Bam, take that!
Up, up and away - to the next fanfic.

My entry is a story that I love: There's No Place Like Home by ML ThompsonQUOTE: She turned to him then, fire flashing in her eyes for the first time since she'd collapsed against Clark in the living room. "How can you say that?" she demanded. "I've just lost..." Her eyes darted towards the stairway, up which their daughter should have been, and then towards Martha and Jonathan. "...everything I've ever cared about."
"Not everything," Clark responded firmly, raising her hand to his face. "You haven't lost me."
"No? So... how long before I do? If we changed the past how long before our memories change to match... whatever has happened here? How does this work, Clark? Because I can't see our memories remaining intact when everything else has changed? So how long? How long before... I lose you, too?" Her voice on the final words was not much more than a strangled whisper. Her hand slipped out of Clark's and she began gently tracing the line of his jaw as if to memorize it. "How long before I lose you, too?" she repeated, her voice breaking and tears slipping unheeded down her cheeks.
Martha glanced at her son, who had gone pale as something the woman had said seemed to slice through his heart.
"Okay, I think it's about time someone filled us in here," Martha said, determinedly taking control of the rapidly deteriorating situation.
Clark looked over at her, his eyes so full of pain that Martha had to stop herself from gasping.
"Mom... Dad... This is Lois Lane..." He paused slightly. "...Kent. Your daughter-in-law. My wife. And the mother of my child."
"My wife's love is what unites Krypton and Earth in my heart. Without it, without her, I truly would be in hell."

Ok I think I'm in the right spot now. I'd like to enter Foreshadowing into the list of time travel fanfics. I already commented on the feedback but I think I got a bit turned around since I've just been a lurker for years and have never really interacted with the board. I'm posting on this thread too just in case I was supposed to. In my opinion, this story has everything I ever wanted in a time travel fanfiction and it even ends well which is often tricky. I only wish Happy Girl wrote more stories. I'm super late to the fanfiction game after being a fan of Lois and Clark since I was in 5th grade. I think I've read nearly everything now. This fanfic is probably my favorite. Here's the link! https://www.lcficmbs.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php/topics/62170/fdk-foreshadowing-part-1Here's the quote “You didn’t, Lois. You didn’t lose any knowledge at all.” She started to argue again, but he kept talking. “John Doe’s real name is Tempus. He’s from the future. I’ve dealt with him before. He can’t erase memories—as far as I know, anyway. But he can travel through time. That machine you described sounds like a soul-tracker. From what you’ve told me, I believe that Tempus traveled back to 1993 and switched your consciousness…with my wife’s.”

You're in the right spot! Are you able to paste a line from the story that proves it's a time travel fic? Otherwise I won't be able to give points.

I think that might be a bit advanced for me but I'll go back and try and edit my post.
Yay I figured it out! Now it makes me want to go back and read the story again. :-)
