Zared is 18 so Clark doesn't need to sign papers. Jenni is only 17.

It really hasn't been mentioned yet, but Clark has been a widow for about four years. That will come out in the next part.

I was going to make you wait til the next story to find out why Caitlin 'looked familiar' to Zared, but I'll go ahead and put in the next part.

Well, Nancy, you know my feelings about this. I'm so fond of Zared and Jenni, and I'm rooting for them so much. I'm so glad that they will be able to move in with Clark, and that Danny will sign whatever papers were necessary for Jenni. Being a Swede, I'm not sure what papers that would be - I'm not sure it would be something that a father would have to sign for his almost 18-year-old daughter in Sweden.

Another little detail that I found fascinatingly different between Sweden and the U.S.A. is that Clark comes through as a caring father by insisting that Zared and Jenni should sleep in different rooms. In Sweden, a caring father would probably insist that Jenni should sleep alone until her surgery wounds had healed. But if she had not had surgery, courtesy would have demanded that the father would have allowed the young couple to sleep in the same room, considering that the youngsters are around eighteen years old and the girl is pregnant with the boy's child. Well, different strokes for different folks.

Well, I'm eager to see more of Zared of Jenni. On the other hand, seeing (and hearing) more of Clark and Caitlin is like having a new wound prodded. It hurts!

Clark also has to think of his other kids. He doesn't want to take a chance of one of them end up being such a young parent, too, and he worries that could happen if he seems permissive with Zared. There will be more coming out about that in the next part - a little twist, that has something to do with the story you have read (coming soon for the rest of you - a little teaser, if you will.) eek

I hadn't thought about the aspect of Jenni's surgical wounds regarding Zared sleeping in the same bed with her. I was thinking more of him sleeping on the floor. Thanks for your comments. I will add something concerning this.

I'm not sure exactly what has to be signed by the parent of an underage child, but I do know that whatever it is wouldn't take much longer than applying for a marriage license, which takes mere moments.

Hmmm. Something else occurred to me. Those papers that Danny would sign. Do they have anything to do with allowing Jenni to get married before she is eighteen?

In Sweden, there has been a lot of talk about Muslim immigrants marrying their daughters off at a too-young age. There has been a lot of talk about making it strictly illegal for anyone under the age of eighteen to get married. The thing is that parental consent isn't going to facilitate under-age marriages at all. I don't know if there is such a law yet, prohibiting anyone under the age of eighteen to get married, but I'm all but certain that there is going to be one.

So in Sweden, Zared and Jenni would just have to live together until Jenni turned eighteen.

Yes, Danny would have to sign the papers because Jenni hadn't turned 18 yet.
