Hi Rac,

I haven't spent much time on my computer since I got back from my trip, but I am still reading your 'epic' story, and I mean that in every sense of the word. smile

I am still totally enthralled by the separate lives of Lois and Clark, or should that be Kal-El. They are both facing such difficulties, and while I understand that a story can't be rushed, I am worried that it is going to take such a long time for them to be reunited.

I sometimes feel that it would help them both so much if they could somehow have some sort of communication... other than dreams.

But this is your story and I'll be patient (with difficulty, wink ) while you solve their overwhelming dilemmas and hopefully bring them together once more.

Yours Jenni

Hi Jenni,

Thanks for your comments. I'm very glad to hear that you're still reading along. I know it has been a long trip so far, but I promise, this isn't the Neverending Story.

I'd say that Clark is still 'Clark,' and that's one of the things that makes this so difficult for him. He has to try to be who everyone expects him to be. It's not unlike being Superman, but at least that was a part time gig.

I'm still busy writing, so there will be more in a few days or so. Thanks again for taking the time to read and comment, especially since you haven't been on-line much.

Rac, I'm still very interested in your story, but I must ask you to forgive me for finding this chapter very bleak and forbidding. I'm sure you meant it to be that way, too. And I'm sure that you want to show us war for what it is, cruel and horrible. It's just that I get a little overwhelmed, reading it, and I don't feel I can quote passages and comment on them.

However, I much appreciated seeing Lois with Perry. Lane Smith turned Perry into a wonderfully warm character, and I'm glad to see you use his warmth to encourage and support Lois. I also very much liked seeing Lois with Jon. It was wonderful that he recognized a picture of Clark. It is heartbreaking to think that maybe this little boy will have to grow up without ever meeting his daddy - but I can't believe you will condemn Jon - and Clark and Lois - to such a fate.

Talan's heroism was almost inhuman, even though you never made her scary or strange, just utterly, utterly unselfish and brave. And you made me feel Clark's absolute horror at seeing the bloodbath, and... well, I don't feel I can dwell on those horrors for very long.

I feel your story is about to descend into the pits of darkness, into some mythological realm of evil and lost hope. Or maybe you are just taking us into the far too real horrors of war. Well, Rac, I'm still reading. I hope you will eventually bring your story to some sort of hopeful close.

Hi Ann,

Thanks for reading and commenting. I really appreciate your taking the time to do so, especially since I know you found this section difficult to deal with. I've been trying to maintain a balance and not have the story degenerate into gratuitous violence for violence's sake, while at the same time, accepting that I can't really pull my punches with the terrible nature of the situation. I know it doesn't seem that way now, but I promise I won't leave my characters in the darkness forever.

I'm glad you enjoyed the scene with Lois and Perry. Lane Smith was indeed a magnificent actor and he brought such warmth to the role of Perry White. One of the things I really disliked about Superman Returns, in fact, was Frank Langella's interpretation of Perry. His cold demeanor and vaguely sexualized attitude toward Lois just plain gave me the creeps. I really like writing Perry White because Smith's Perry was such a wonderful mix of cynic and softie.

I will be posting more soon.

Thanks again for the wonderful comments.

Hi,

Great part! hyper

Don't like Luthor, unfinished, untitled and crossover story, and people that promises and don't deliver. I'm getting choosy with age.
