Great little fic, Lisa!

This is grim and chilling, Lisa, and very well done.

He’d been waiting his whole life for this moment. No one knew these bastards like he did. He needed to get down there right away.
You can feel how perversely excited he is here. He claims to not want aliens on his planet, but without them, his whole life is pointless. That's my exact reading of Trask, and you do a fine job of capturing the essence of his character in this scene.

Great job!

I loved the inclusion of Mary there as an anchor (a 'normal' person) even as Trask is central to the fic. It really is interesting that even though she's not the center, the little things flesh her out. My heart went out to her. I really enjoyed the fic.

Kudos on the title.

Lisa!! That was *excellent*! smile You really need to start posting more stories, girl. Seriously.

Yep. He's gone out... of his mind, that is. *lol* Sorry, couldn't help it. Nasty dude, this Trask!!

Loved this little fic. It reminded me of some of the scenes in JFK - with the father so absorbed by his work and concerns that he barely seens his wife and kids... Definitely how a government operative would be, in my opinion. smile

Well done!

This story was great!

Oh that was unsettling. I felt so sorry for his wife and kids though! Ah, such a madman. ^_^ Great job!

Thank you, everybody. I'm happy you liked it!

"Grim and chilling" - it sounds weird to say thank you to that, but, even so, *thank you*, Caroline, because that is what I was going for.

I am glad so many of you noted the family and the title - they were little things, but definitely done with purpose.

I have discovered over the last several months that I like darker fic. Stories like Faustian Bargain and Getting Eaten Alive (at ff.net) tapped into a vein I didn't even know I had. While this isn't angsty, exactly, it's definitely the first non-happy piece I've ever written. I'm digging around the recesses of my mind to see if I have any more in there.
