“I know. And I promise I’ll give you lots of time to study. But first, I want to tell you something.”
He looked around at the room, appearing rather tense.
“Is there someplace more private we can talk?”
There was no reason for Lois to say ‘yes’ and every reason in the world for her to say ‘no’, but yet she was strangely curious. And so she found herself inviting him to join her at the library. She’s softening! “Oh, that? That happened years ago. I am so over it.” Oh, you are so NOT over it, Lois! (Not an easy thing to do.) “I’m fine, Kent,” she assured him through her mirth. “Maybe your Mama never told you this but sometimes women just bleed. It’s one of those birds and bees things, ‘Mr. Showoff’. It’s called menstruation.” Somehow I’m thinking that Clark would definitely know the difference - not the least of which would be the difference in menstrual blood and fresh blood. So what happened to Lois visiting for Thanksgiving? “I’m fine, Kent,” she assured him through her mirth. “Maybe your Mama never told you this but sometimes women just bleed. It’s one of those birds and bees things, ‘Mr. Showoff’. It’s called menstruation.” So now I’m confused. Was Lois raped by those creeps or not? “Mom, when it all happened and Lois was all hurt and bloody, I don’t know what came over me. I said some things that were rude and thoughtless. And now Lois is acting pretty mad. How do I make that right?” He did? I thought he was pretty nice. Okay, I looked back at the last part. He wasn’t mean, but I can see how he thought that maybe Lois was upset. Great part, Elisabeth!

So now I’m confused. Was Lois raped by those creeps or not? I've obviously got some editing to do since, in review, I can understand how it might have been ambiguous. In short, Lois was attacked and battered, but Clark got there before she was raped. When he arrived, she was beaten and bruised by the men and her hands and knees were torn up by the concrete, but she was not raped at this time. She was, however, raped in the past. I'll try to rewrite it so it's more clear. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Mom, when it all happened and Lois was all hurt and bloody, I don’t know what came over me. I said some things that were rude and thoughtless. And now Lois is acting pretty mad. How do I make that right?” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He did? I thought he was pretty nice. Okay, I looked back at the last part. He wasn’t mean, but I can see how he thought that maybe Lois was upset. I agree. I wanted to show how shook up Clark is. He's awkward and overly sensitive and he tends to hover a little bit over Lois. Thanks. Elisabeth

Hi, Great part!

How could Lois have been raped and is "over it" now? Not hardly. Now I guess I understand better why she doesn't trust...Clark.
But enough is enough! Let her let him in. I'm just so tired of seeing Clark hurt.
Come back soon!

I'm reading the story with a lot more interest now. I think I understand what you are saying - Lois wasn't raped by those thugs in the last chapter (that was pretty obvious to me), but she had been raped in the past. Lois is over that rape, in a way, but she is still unbelievably distrustful of men. I have to admit that if a woman is distrustful of men, she would probably not appreciate Clark's attentions. He really has been coming on strong, or at least he hasn't let up.
Of course, I so, so hope that Lois will see that Clark is indeed different. I don't think she really understood that at all in this chapter. She is still so extremely distrustful of him.
Once I listened to someone who gave a lecture about couples that had lived happily together for many years. He said that these people had almost always been somewhat attracted to one another right away, but not enough to decide right away that they had a future together. So they went their separate ways for a while - one of them going away, going to university, moving to another city, whatever - and then after a while they met again. And now, this time, they realized how much they had missed each other and how glad they were to meet again. Being separated for a while made them see that they were made for one another.
So I'm wondering.... Maybe Clark should let up for a while? Maybe he should leave Lois alone for a bit? Maybe he should give her a chance to see that she will miss him when he isn't there for her? Just a thought.
By the way, I loved that he was prepared to tell her his secret. She was too contemptuous to really understand what he was saying. If he goes away, and she starts missing him, maybe she will start thinking, and wondering. I would like to see that.
Good chapter, Elisabeth.

Great chapter. It was a little refreshing to see Clark try some new...moves? Lois was feeling stiff and sore, but she had to hand it to Kent. There was barely any bruising on her cheek, and her hands and knees didn’t look too badly infected. She Good job Clark! He looked around at the room, appearing rather tense.
“Is there someplace more private we can talk?” Is this going to be what I think...? Oh my goodness!! There was no reason for Lois to say ‘yes’ and every reason in the world for her to say ‘no’, but yet she was strangely curious. And so she found herself inviting him to join her at the library. Oh most definatley! “I’m fine, Kent,” she assured him through her mirth. “Maybe your Mama never told you this but sometimes women just bleed. It’s one of those birds and bees things, ‘Mr. Showoff’. It’s called menstruation.” I thought this was just hillarious. Poor Clark. That had to be soooo Lois waited until she was sure he was gone before she lunged for the paperwad sitting atop her purse. Perfect Lois! I totally saw this cute image coming. I'm glad it came b/c you made it develop into cute and lovely bit. Cute ending Off to read the next part...
I've converted to lurk-ism... hopefully only temporary.
