Oh, Paul, this is great stuff. Sorry for skipping the fdk for several chapters, but I love what you're doing with the characters.

I also started to see Gina a little more often, as Alan asked me more and more frequently to be the one to return the kids. He'd always been the reclusive type, from what I understood, but I didn't mind. As for Gina, she seemed to appreciate seeing me. She, like many others, had been pretty shaken up by the asteroid. Seeing a familiar and friendly face was good for her.
smile Oh, good, you didn't drop this. A nice romance between Tommy and Gina is well deserved.

razz Hate B39. I hope Tommy gets a chance to infiltrate using his invisible suit and beats them up.

If we were going to intercept them at the Planet, we'd need a diversion. Something to keep people — especially Clark — out of the way, and to mask any signs of the fight. Phillip's scans had picked up someone interesting a while back. His name was Willie, and he was a recently paroled prisoner. He'd been convicted of murder, but seemed to be very gentle and non-violent. His claims of innocence actually seemed believable. What had caught Phillip's attention, though, was his mention of the Daily Planet. Apparently, Willie thought some old gangster's treasure was in a safe hidden somewhere in the building.
clap I love it! Now, the episode makes so much more sense. Willy was able to catch Jimmy coming out of the vent system because the group had him under surveilance. And Cat, working for the Shadow group, comes in while everyone is in the conference room, makes sure they're all restrained and leaves again. wink Her comment about spending the weekend in handcuffs is now an inside joke.

Since Jack's character was used and abused and then dropped from the show, can I assume he will soon be a member of the group?

Just catching up with this one.

Love the premise for this story. Can't wait for more posts to come out.

There are, unfortunately, so many 'helpers' that will become available...Jack would be a good one.

Love this fill-in the details view.

I think, therefore, I get bananas.

When in doubt, think about time travel conundrums. You'll confuse yourself so you can forget what you were in doubt about.

What's the difference between ignorance, apathy, and ambivalence?
I don't know and I don't care one way or the other.

That's okay. I appreciate you commenting now. (And I know I've missed commenting on more than a few stories or parts over the years...)

Yeah, I thought so, too. But you can thank Bon Jovi for convincing me that it had to be done. wink

Not exactly... At least... not yet? Hmm...

Thank you! That was my goal. laugh

Not sure if the coming part will live up to your expectations, but I do love your speculation about how it now fits together.

You can assume anything you want. wink

Thanks! Next one up in just a sec. smile I think from now on I'll post every other day, never mind MWF for TRS or whatever.

Not sure what's so unfortunate about having a large pool to choose from. It's nice to have options. And good for the Shadows to have friends...

Thanks! That's one of the things I liked best about writing it. smile

I'm slowly but surely picking my way through the wealth of gems on the board. But I'm trying to leave fdk as I go, since it looks like fdk has been sparse for everybody these days.

Seems kind of sad that not even the outcasts want Cat, at first. I'm glad it makes her feel good, though.

I'm not sure about Tommy's regular patrols. I would think after a while somebody would notice that a vigilante had popped up, particularly if a pattern develops. Thankfully, Metropolis is rather large, but...

Gina bothers me. My mommy-alarms blare for a mother whose children don't go to school, but she never notices it. Perhaps some effort needs to be made to teach these kids. Even geniuses work to better themselves.

Thanks, Elisabeth. I really appreciate the FDK, especially since, as you say, it has been kind of sparse lately. (Wonder why? Where is everybody?)

I hadn't really thought of it in those terms. I guess I'm not used to thinking of the Shadows so much as outcasts. More like forgotten recluses. Interesting to see it from a different perspective. Thanks. smile

Well, the Shadows try to work in subtle ways, and Tommy does have the invisibility suit. I think it'd be a while before rumors of a friendly ghost started cropping up into something believable. For those times when he doesn't use the suit... He's either a friendly stranger with no distinctive uniform or he's making some convincing arguments to people who are only likely to talk within their own small circles.

Besides, with the Man of Steel flying around above, who's going to pay attention to the Shadows on the ground?

Gina isn't a very good mom, no. Remember, she gave them up to what amounts to an orphanage because she couldn't handle motherhood. But she's working on it, slowly.

You know... Somehow, in all of this, I forgot about school. I kind of assumed they were learning down in the Fortress, but I'm not sure if I ever made that explicit (remember, it's been over a year since I wrote this). I'll have to go back and see if I can fix that. Thanks!

Well, glad to hear you're enjoying, but do keep the nitpicks coming. Constructive criticism is a good thing in my book. smile
