Delightful as as far as it goes.

Quote
John raked a hand through his hair. "Look. Both of my parents are reporters. My dad especially has made it perfectly clear he's hoping I'll follow in his footsteps! Both sets," he grumbled.

"But John, you've been sketching since you were five!"

"Lots of five-year-olds draw and color," John defended. "Besides, it doesn't matter. As far as they're concerned, I was a star reporter before I was even born." He sighed. "I just don't want to be a *complete* disappointment."
Hmm, Clark didn't want to be a farmer, Lois didn't become a Doctor, have they failed to let John know they'll love him whatever field he follows?

If you are really dead sticked on this one

this has been on my hard-drive, either; maybe 3 years. While this isn't technically angst, it is kind of moody, though. At least I think so, anyway... I guess you could call it FFAW. It's been a WIP for a long time, until I finally decided to just post it as a vignette and see what happens.
You might perhaps turn it into a "Challenge" and invite others to work on it?

I like this. It's interesting that John appears not to view his muse as a real person, despite their conversation. And it's touching that she feels a sense of inadequacy or failure at his reaction to her urging.

Maybe it just needed to mature properly, like a fine wine.

What an intriguing story. I take it his muse is a real person--a model and not just a flight of fancy.

I used to draw a lot way back in the day. Like John I drew the same thing over and over again. It was more than a doodle. It was a figure I had mastered--one that I was proud of. But somewhere along the line (college, maybe? high school, perhaps?), I just quit drawing it. I don't know if I could reproduce it if I was paid big money.

Anyway, this story had me wistfully remembering those days of youth.

Moved by Admin from bottom of story post. :-)

Athos: If you'd told us what you were doing, we might have been able to plan this properly.
Aramis: Yes, sorry.
Athos: No, no, by all means, let's keep things suicidal.
