If she had to move heaven and Earth, perhaps come back to haunt Perry and explain the story after they'd killed her, she would do it.

I have to comment on this because it's one of my favorite parts (and because I'm procrastinating laugh ).

I love the teamwork used to retrieve the ship from Cadmus! But what I really love is their safekeeping of the ship and notifying Clark of it. It makes me cry. (We've established that I'm a sap. blush )

This cracks me up:

Quote
The note asked Clark to pass the envelope along to Superman without opening it himself. We thought it was better not to admit that we knew his secret, and the kids were amused by the instructions, which would be very difficult for Clark to follow truthfully.
And this... this is what makes me cry:

Quote
We figured the lead shield would be obvious enough on an x-ray sweep of the area, but hard for anyone else to see. We were right. We saw him fly out over the neighborhood, then pause, looking intently at the ship. He landed a few blocks away, hiding in the shadows, then stared at it through the (unleaded) side panels of the shell. Then he checked the rest of the site. We weren't sure what he was looking for, but there was no Kryptonite anywhere in the area, and, despite the security, nothing which could prevent *him* from zipping through, smashing his way in, and zooming off with the ship. After a while, he nodded, then flew off. Apparently, he was satisfied the ship was real and secure, but not ready to claim it. We didn't like having to reveal so much of ourselves, but we were honored by his implied trust and approval.
I just have to quote the whole paragraph because it's so wonderfully written. I can *see* Clark there *and* feel what he must be feeling, as well as what the Shadows must be feeling and thinking. The last line, as Ankit quoted already, is the best. I love that it explains where the ship went and how Clark could suddenly get a hold of it when Zara came along. An example, again, of why I love this story so much. There aren't plot glitches anymore; it's a whole secret network of love and caring and trust helping to watch over our hero. And that Clark gets a hint of that notion and seems to accept it for what it is, that's awesome. notworthy

Mary, glad you're liking it. smile

No, the Shadows didn't invent the hovercraft. That was invented long before the 90s. They did, however, adapt the Wall of Sound technology to create a new type of (silent and powerful) hovercraft.

As for the date... It's being written by Tommy at an indeterminate point in his future. Years after the end of the show, but likely before the founding of Utopia.

Ankit, thanks for the compliment. And, yeah, I liked the trust, too. It came about, as Sara pointed out, because of the continuity of the show, but I was happy with the way it came together. Glad to know it worked so well for you. smile

Sara... just curious... how many favorite parts do you have? wink (Reminds me of the guy from the KFC combo pack commercial...)

Okay, sorry. Here you are, having been my faithful BR, one of my most faithful commenters, and reading the story yet again... you deserve better than that.

Anyway, yeah. I've said it and you've said it and others have said it, but might as well say it one more time. It's one of my favorite aspects of the story that it builds continuity and plot "glitches" into a new, secret, expanded series canon. I had a lot of fun with that, and it's always good to see someone appreciating it. So... thanks again. smile

When in doubt, think about penguins. It probably won't help, but at least it'll be fun.
