As always, thanks so much for all the thoughtful feedback. I would have responded sooner, but life got away from me and I haven't had any free computer time. It was nice to see this when I got online tonight.
Yes, Ann, I imagine you're not the only one who doesn't remember Skagle or Weis. They haven't featured in this story very much up until now. Honestly, they were invented as a nice plot devise for getting Lois and John on their first date, but then I decided to use them for more nefarious purposes.
As such, there isn't a lot we know about them. Mike Skagle is running for senator of California and is garnering a lot of publicity for a senatorial candidate. This makes Lois and Abby suspicious, so they have been investigating him, although without much success.
At the party Lois and John went to on their first date, Lois heard that Skagle has run for office once before in Maryland five years ago, but had been unsuccessful. This time around, he appears to be financially supported by Mickey Weis, a well-known business man, although it's unclear why Weis would support Skagle.
When Lois mentions the investigation to Clark, he, too, has been suspicious of Skagle, but knows little more than Lois does. He has seen Skagle meet with Weis, but little else. (But as Superman, he isn't doing any reporting so had no real need to try to get additional data.)
Lois knows very little about Weis as well; Clark only slightly more. Basically (info from Clark), when LexCorp fell apart upon Luthor's death, Weis picked up quite of a bit of it at bargain prices.
Up until this past chapter, this is all we've known about them.
Another good thing - chillingly good - was how you wrote that awful politician, Mike Skagle
He is awful, isn't he? Sadly, I think what you imply is correct, though. This may not be as far off as the reality would be if there was a Superman.
But I was a bit confused about this:
“Oh my… Clark Kent!” Lucy Kent's voice came from the doorway.
Lucy Kent? You didn't tell me that Clark has a younger brother and Lucy is married to him...
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about… Okay, I don't know what I was thinking. I've fixed it. I've decided to leave Lucy last-nameless for now. For some reason, unlike Lois, she seems like someone who would take her husband's name to me. And so I would need to make up a name no one would be familiar with and I didn't think anyone would have any idea who I was talking about. So Lucy is just Lucy, sort of like Cher.
Would Lucy be so effusive with a man she has barely met, and who barely remembers her?
In my mind, yes, but to be fair, I think this requires not only having watched LnC, but also actually being inside my mind to see my image of Lucy, which may be difficult for you to do (and somewhat uncomfortable for me). When I picture Lucy as she would be now, I see some aspects of the Lucy Lane from the show – bubbly, vivacious, and willing to speak her mind, but more mature and more in control. So, in short, she is the sort of person who would be overly excited to see someone she hasn't seen in awhile. While normally not that way with someone she barely knew, she feels a fondness for Clark. She feels like she knew him well, as she's spent years listening to Lois talk about him.
Beth-
I think the thing that excites me the most about this part is that Lois and Clark are going to Metropolis.
I like them going back to Metropolis, and it feels important to me as part of their healing process for them to go back to a place where they've been Lois Lane and Clark Kent before, but I should warn you so you're not too disappointed later, I'm pretty set on them not staying there. Lois is too attached to Sammy to leave and I like that part of her character, so I don't want to ruin it by having her move far away.
Sheila-
I've read this and enjoyed every word but am rushed and don't have time to leave the feedback that this deserves
This was more than enough. Thanks!
Maybe this time Clark wont screw it up.
