Michael, just so you know it, I liked this part. I love the delightful humour of your writing:
And so Clark took off again, a last, heavy sigh the only thing that remained behind when he turned towards the Midwest and a small farming community in the middle of nowhere.
Would you believe I giggled at this? Well, because it reminded me of the Cheshire Cat. The cat disappeared and only the smile remained!
And I could just picturing Clark being swallowed up by the night, but his big heavy sigh remained!
Couldn't find any disembodied sighs at night, but maybe this is Clark's broken heart and his sigh!
Why had his mother to be so perceptive? True, he was usually most grateful for his quick-witted parents, but couldn't they at least let him tell the story at his own speed? For instance, the speed with which the continents drifted across the earth's mantle.
Oh, giggle! Poor Clark!
And then he took a deep breath and began to elaborate onto the events of last night and this morning – properly censored for decency of course.
I giggled at the censoring, too!
“I'm sorry, Mom, Dad. I know I screwed up, okay?” Clark conceded, earning himself a sharp look before he hastily appended. “I mean, I know it's not *okay*, it's actually quite the opposite. And do you have any idea just how much I would like to take back what had happened last night?” Clark was close to tears by now, and the only thing that kept them in check was his unwillingness to appear like he was trying to win their sympathy.
“So, what's going to happen now?” his mother asked, carefully taking a twisted piece of metal from his hands.
This was funny too, but I was also really moved by Clark's shame and embarrassment. Poor Clark! I felt really sorry for him.
“So last year Lois declared her love for you, Clark, when this Miranda-person sprayed the newsroom. And this time she was all over Superman and completely ignored you as Clark.”
“Yes?” Clark was at a loss to figure out what his father was taking about. Giving his mother a quick glance, he had the sudden feeling he was looking at a teacher bursting with pride at her very best student. Ever.
“Then how can you believe her declaring she no longer has any feelings for you just because she figured out Clark and Superman are one and the same?” Jonathan concluded to the grin of his wife.
Good, Jonathan!
“So all your indications of Lois' feelings come from a *very* heated discussion an hour after she had learned about your secret and after the night she had unwittingly spent with her best friend?” his mother asked with a look that made him wonder if she really thought him to be an intelligent life-form.
Phhew!! I love your drastic way of putting things.
“See, and that's where the piles and piles of Swiss chocolate will come into play,” Jonathan grinned at his wife.
“Jonathan Kent, you are impossible, do you know that?” Martha exclaimed exasperatedly.
“Hey, Swiss chocolate had always worked on you, hadn't it?” Jonathan shrugged.
“Oh you!” Martha exclaimed after her retreating husband, trying to catch him before he made it all the way to their bedroom.
Hah! I wonder what would happen if he made it all the way into the bedroom?
And first thing in the morning he was going to have a letter delivered to Lois, bundled with more chocolates and flowers. Yes, a letter would be a good idea, for it was certainly non-confrontational, and if he did it right, she might even read the first few lines before throwing it away. And perhaps, just perhaps, she might even read the whole letter.
Ah, sniffle! Poor Clark. He is so sweet.
The one thing Clark wasn't sure about, was how to bring up the topic of finding Anonymous. He knew that he didn't have the right to do so. Not with Lois being the primary victim in this mess. Perhaps he could talk to Perry after all? But with Lois having told their editor that Superman has had sex with a drugged woman, what would their boss think when Clark walked into his office, telling him there was a nut-job with "Revenge' on the loose?
But this makes me squirm. Michael, I thought it was all right, or pretty much all right, that Lois used super-Viagra on Clark to make him lose control around her. Okay, no, it wouldn't have been all right if it had been for real, but given that Lois and Clark are fictional people who belong togehter anyway and Clark has been lying to her, I thought it was all right.
But when Lois sent those letters from Anonymous, I really, decidedly thought she went too far. That sort of thing isn't funny any more. It was wrong of her to do it, purely and simply. And for me there is a big problem here. I don't want Lois to do the things I absolutely disapprove of, and I also don't want to see her punished and humiliated for doing those bad things. You have created a situation which can't easily be brought to a satisfying conclusion - well, satisfying for me, at least!
Do me a favor, Michael, OK? I know that there are FoLCs who would like to see Lois getting spanked for what she's done. Well, I don't want to see it. I
so don't want to see it! So if your muse insists on giving Lois that spanking, please send me a PM first and warn me, OK?
