Beth, this is still great stuff. Ellie getting bored with the wedding stuff. Jay worrying about the super-powered overprotective daddy. You know all those gags where the father takes the boyfriend aside to show him his firearms? Could be a funny conversation, like how Superman gets rid of the garbage (vaporizes some garbage bag ) And I really, really, want to know about the strength issues. You are going to drag this out until part 15, aren't you? Michael

Thanks, Michael! And I really, really, want to know about the strength issues. You are going to drag this out until part 15, aren't you? No, I'm not that mean. I might give it to you as early as part 12.

Beth, there is so much I love about this chapter. The Jay flashback breaks my heart. Although, I just realized - Jay and Lois should have a heart to heart. They have lots in common. The basketball game makes me laugh. Meeting your girlfriend's family is strssful enough, but playing basketball against two super-heros? That's just cruel. And, of course, it shows how much Jay must like Ellie to do it. And I liked the fact that Ellie doesn't like shopping. No good reason for this. It's just that I like Ellie and I'm with her - when I shop, I get what I want and leave. I'm checking my inbox regularly waiting for the next chapter...

Thanks for the feedback! mishmishat, I didn't know you were reading this! Thanks so much for letting me know that you're enjoying this. Jay and Lois should have a heart to heart. They have lots in common. Hmm... That definitely has some possibilities...

I haven't commented before, Beth, because I've just caught up with the story. And I see that I've been missing yet another good one. Phooey on me!
I really wonder where Ellie's control problems are coming from. I don't think it's red K, although it might be. But that's just not your style. You deal with human things, with real issues, with the emotions that real people deal with all the time, and you do it so well that it's almost possible to forget that we're reading about superheroes.
So Ellie has some leftover issues from her younger years which are creating problems for her now. That's just so very realistic and natural. I wonder if some part of it is they way she feels she's perceived by some people, that she thinks she's seen as less powerful than her dad and her brother. (And I don't doubt that her perceptions are, for the most part, quite accurate.) Maybe the problem is not in her body but in her mind, which would make the solution that much more difficult to find. Maybe her subconscious is telling her that she has to be strong in order to be respected.
The part about Clark and Jay clicking because of their shared interest in sports was great. I never connected with my father-in-law over anything because we were so very different. It was almost scary to see Ellie checking out Kaylie to see if she'd been injured during an intimate session with Jon. Will they talk about this? And will Ellie talk to her mom about it? It might be a good thing to have Lois talk to Jay about it, but I don't think either of them is ready. Jay and Lois will have to break out of a near-death situation together (like Lois and Kaylie did) in order to reach that level of trust, and that might make Clark really mad at Jay for letting Lois get into trouble (again).
Or will Clark see the bruises on Jay's shoulder and draw the correct conclusion? If he does, who will he talk to first? And does he have any usable advice for Ellie? Will Bernie Klein figure it out first, and if so will he be able to talk about it without being mortally mortified?
One of the things I really liked about the L&C series was its focus on the characters instead of on the powers. Your stories are right on the button too, Beth, and I like reading them because they're people stories. And you never devolve into soap opera or tragic opera. You always stay on track and stay focused, and your stories never drag. Everything in them adds to the whole.
So when do we get the next chapter?
Life isn't a support system for writing. It's the other way around.

Well, Terry, you've managed to make me blush with all your flattery. Thanks so much for all your kind words, and now it's up to me to try to live up to them. I'm so glad you're enjoying this story so far, and thanks for the great feedback!
