LOL, that was cute. I really like this Lois -- she's tough, but doesn't have a chip on her shoulder with Clark. I really enjoyed their banter, especially as they walked into the bar. I love that Clark gave as good as he got, and got a laugh out of her in the process. Adorable! Kathy

So what if I’m recycling comments from the BR’ing? Clark looked at her incredulously. “So, let me get this straight. You expected me to understand the appeal, but not be a fan?” Well, duh! “Not at all,” Clark informed her, taking a step back to look at her more closely.
“Stop it!” Lois said, giggling despite herself.
“Hey!” Clark defended himself. “I figure I’m not supposed to do any ogling in there, I better get my share in out here.” You’re so bad “So,” Lois started again a few steps later. “You’ve been to one before?”
“One what? A mud wrestling bar?” They do have pigsties in Smallville. And mud. And… stuff. /points at Pride, Prejudice and Jimmy Choos/ The bartender gave her a quick once-over. “No need to see Lenny. You’re hired. We usually prefer our contestants wear fewer clothes though.” And Lois gets hired on the spot “Right,” Lois said, her tone measured, to make sure he remembered his obligation. “We’re partners. You have my back.”
“And what a lovely back it is,” Clark said, as he deftly defended himself from her swatting hand. Michael

I don't know if you did this on purpose, but this story is wonderfully ambiguous as to what exactly Lois and Clark's relationship is--it's obviously not early Season 1 when she barely tolerates him, but it could be any time after they become friends. I kept waiting for some clue--are they dating? Does she know the secret? Are they married? The great thing is, it doesn't matter, because even if they've been married for years, she'd still Lois and he's still Clark.
This *is* my happily ever after.

“With mud wrestling bars? Why are they so popular anyway?”
“You’re kidding, right?” Clark asked her. “Women in skimpy bikinis rolling around in the mud. What’s not to like?”
Lois stopped in her tracks. “Wait. Don’t tell me you’re a fan?”
Clark looked at her incredulously. “So, let me get this straight. You expected me to understand the appeal, but not be a fan?”
“Exactly,” Lois told him. “I figured, you’re a guy, so you’d know. But you’re… well, you. So you wouldn’t condone that sort of behavior.” I laughed and laughed at this exchange.

Thank you for the comments! I'm delighted you liked it. Since I don't think I do comedy well, this story was a bit of a challenge for me. I think I'm somewhat easy to laugh, so even after I wrote it, I wasn't sure it would strike anyone else as funny. Michael - Feel free to recycle comments as much as you'd like. As long as they're the good kind. HappyGirl - I'm not sure if you want to know or not, but this is set in season 2 in my head. I didn't leave it ambiguous on purpose. I forgot that no one would know that. Stupid me! I knew when it was set as in my head it's related to my ficathon piece by this one little line in that. Now I know I haven't posted that yet, but like I said, I forgot that little detail. That story places this in early season 2 - not sure exactly when, but probably around Thanksgiving.

What Happy Girl said. I spent the whole story trying to figure out if they were friends, dating, engaged, or married. I also was trying to figure out if Lenny was Lenny Stokes in a very different setting. (I know. He's not.)

I fell in the same trap as Nancy. Read the Ficathon piece first, suggested the add-on and so it was all veddy veddy clear. Sorry Michael

Sorry for the confusion, Elisabeth. I'll have to make sure to make that clear on the archive. And I completely forgot about Lenny Stokes, so no relation whatsoever.

I'm not sure the reader needs to know when it's set. It's actually kind of fun to be left guessing.

I agree. I chose to read it as them married, and it worked just fine.
