Great part, ML. I was grinning at the fact that Franklin Stern had to get involved and that Perry, usually the voice of reason and control at the Planet, had to be sequestered and held back by security along with everyone else. Great characterizations! “He’s the one who hit me. I’m not complaining about my jaw, am I?”
“Well, that’s because... that’s because...” Lois’ voice trailed off in confusion, almost as if she knew there was a reason Kent’s jaw wasn’t hurting but couldn’t quite figure out what it was. Loved this. Lois' true memories about him being Superman are leaking through, but they're not available to her conscious mind. Although I still think that he should tell her at some point (like after she's been spirited to a remote island ), judging by how angry she is at Clark right now, that's a very good thing that she *can't* remember. I loved seeing the back-story and Clark's reasoning for the kidnapping. Not only is Clark being smart about Superman, but he's saving his friends from worry and the police from unnecessary work by making the culprit obvious. I doubt that the legal consequences of his actions matter much to Clark right now. I am eager to see what happens when Lois wakes up. I can hardly wait for the next part. B

What I find particularly interesting is that no one seemed to think much of this: You're right, BJ. I did sort of fudge on that detail. Thanks for pointing it out. So I've now gone back and changed it slightly. I now have Clark pushing Deter away from Lois and grabbing Lois by the shoulders before Deter takes the swing. So now if Henderson arrests Deter, he would really have to arrest Clark, too. And he really doesn't want to do that. As for Clark wanting to press charges... I doubt he'd want to do that since it would raise questions about the reason he wasn't hurt. And that would jeopordize his secret. Now, if that were the only way to get Lois away from Deter, I suspect he would do it, even if he were to get charged in return. But, as we know, that's not his only option. Hope that clears that up for you. ML

Well, count me among those who are hooked. And hearing that we're going to get parts every other day makes me very happy. You've done a good job of explaining why and how Clark took steps to make sure he was the main/only suspect in Lois's kidnapping. I have no doubt that Deter will continue to pursue her -- though like others, I've always wondered why he was so obsessed with her, so I'm looking forward to seeing your take on things -- and it wouldn't surprise me if Superman were asked to find her and bring her back to Deter. Heh. Like that's gonna happen. It was hard to read a detailed version of Lois's state of mind, with her actually saying the words to break up with Clark. It's clear that she's really far gone, if she could be so cruel to him. (And that she doesn't realize how illogical it all is, that she knows she has memory gaps, but doesn't see anything wrong with wanting to leave everyone and everything she cares about for a stranger. I was thrilled to see Clark point that out to her, and the fact that she rejected it outright shows she's not really "Lois Lane" at the moment.) I know that eventually it will be alright, but I have a feeling Clark is going to be in for a lot more emotional pain before this is all over. Sob! I guess all we can hope is that once Lois is away from Deter, and the messages aren't being reinforced, she'll be able to clear away the cobwebs and let those memories resurface. I'm sure this is what Clark is hoping, too. I just have a feeling it won't happen fast enough for his liking! Kathy

Just wanted to drop you a note, ML - I'm excited about your fic! It's a time in the show that's rarely tackled (because we've all tried to forget it, lol) and I'm so glad that you seem up for the challenge. Really enjoying the story so far, and looking forward to seeing what happens next. I haven't read a lot of L&C fic in recent years, but it's always so fun to come back to your first love! Will be interesting to see how Lois reacts to her "kidnapping"...can't wait for part 3! Tracey

I know that eventually it will be alright, but I have a feeling Clark is going to be in for a lot more emotional pain before this is all over. Sob! Well, maybe the very next paragraph in the story is: As Lois came slowly out of sleep, she suddenly remembered everything. Her friendship with Clark. Falling slowly in love with him. Their resulting engagement. A smile made its way across her face as it suddenly occurred to her that they were stranded together on a tropical island. Now, this had possibilities. (Well, it could happen!) 15 minutes later. "Thank you for coming, Chief Harrison. I don't know what got into that inspector of yours, but suddenly he pulled his gun on the shrink demanded he do some anatomically impossible things." Will be interesting to see how Lois reacts to her "kidnapping" Well, stay tuned. Part three should be up in a few minutes. Again, everyone, thanks for the comments. ML
