Oh, poor Clark! What have you done to him?!
My guess is that there is a small dose of Kryptonite in his locket to keep him 'normal'. I could guess a whole lot more but I don't want to go ruining the story for anyone with all my theories! LOL
Can't wait for more.

Fascinating!
I agree with Elizabeth that Clark is probably carrying kryptonite in his locket to suppress his powers. He literally is green around the gills, as Perry noted. And the reason why he is removing his powers with kryptonite has to do with his fear of touching people - chances are that he has lost control of his powers enough to hurt (or kill?) a person by touching him or her. Now he is determined that that must never happen again. Of course, if he hasn't got his powers he can't hurt anybody with his superstrength, so what is he afraid of now? Surely he can't break Perry's hand by shaking it if he is no stronger than a normal human being? Has he passed a kryptonian virus to an earthling by touching that person? But surely a locket with kryptonite wouldn't make Clark less infectious if he was infectious in the first place, so that doesn't make sense either, does it?
This is the second time Clark has seen people die that he might have saved if he had had his superpowers. Maybe it is time for you to reconsider your decision to shed your powers, Clark.

I am so glad you decided to post again so soon My theories also matches those of Elizabeth's and Ann's - that Clark has some form of Kryptonite in his locket and that his fear of touching people stems from having hurt/killed someone in the past. Wonder how Lois will treat him and his fear ... Looking forward to the next part

I didn't read your first chapter right away, not sure I wanted to start something open-ended, but then I gave in and read the first two, and now I am thoroughly hooked! So please don't make us wait too long between postings. The beginning is very intriguing and I can't wait to see where you are going to take us.

Well, everyone who's offered an opinion on the subject thinks Clark has green K in the locket, and so do I. It's the most logical explanation, given his morning routine of needing to sit down for a while after donning it, being afraid to touch people, and his reaction if he does. And I agree that Clark must have injured someone with his uncontrolled strength, perhaps someone close to him - like his father? Or a former girlfriend?
And when Martha told him she was glad he hadn't sealed himself inside an ice fortress, that said volumes. Whatever happened, Clark is afraid of his abilities and thinks they're a curse, not a possible blessing. And when he figures out that he might have saved those women and the baby from the bus, he'll hate himself even more. This boy has the potential to be one really messed-up dude.
His condition is going to make any kind of romance with Lois a little awkward, don't you think? "Sorry, Lois, I'd love to put my arms around you, but I'm scared to touch you." That would go over real well with Mad Dog Lane. I wonder if she's going to steal his locket to find out what he's hiding? And will she be both be amazed and sorry when she finds out just how mad a mild-mannered Kansas boy with super-strength can be?
This is excellent so far. I'm waiting for the next chapter.

Aw, that's so cute. Clark thinks Lois is mad at *him*, not the entire world in general. Dream on, kid. I'm with everyone else on the Kryptonite. I hope we get to hear Martha's and Jonathan's opinions on it at some point.

This isn't the self-confident, world-traveling Clark that we know. Something is off here. Everyone else has good speculations, and I can't wait for more parts.

Here's a theory, there's a theory Swimmin' in the sea. With so many theories swimmin', Who could need me? (*cough* Okay. I'll try to refrain from bad rhyming responses in the future.) To avoid discussing plot, I'm not going to address the responses individually-- but thanks to everyone for the feedback! It has been read and appreciated. A few things even made me laugh, heh.

/continues from part 1/ He gave me a hard look. “Now, Professor Carlton told me that you’re suffering from—”
“Aphephobia,” I offered feebly.
“Right. You don’t like to touch people.” Hmm... definitely worried about hurting people. I opened the door and began to walk out when someone barreled into me. I stepped backward in surprise, and the person who’d run into me fell to the floor.
Chagrined, I moved to help the person—a woman—get to her feet, but then I quickly realized what I was doing and stopped. “S-sorry,” I mumbled.
She glared at me and picked herself up off the ground with more dignity than seemed possible, given the awkwardness of the situation.
I moved out of the doorway and to the side so she could bypass me, and her annoyance was almost tangible as she brushed past me and shut herself in the small room with the Chief Editor. I could hear her demand, “Who was that guy?” So many things revealed here. Clark's definitely consciously avoiding touching people. I don't think he would have to force himself to refrain from helping if he had Aphephobia. And now Lois thinks he's just another insensitive man. And to top it all off, Clark has always been the touchy guy. Fanon has him actually as the touchier of their relationship, and Lois just liking it. But now, he won't try to make physical contact, staying away from Lois, etc. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. But they weren’t able to make it in time. The bus hit them straight on. I was helpless to stop it. Okay, either Clark's more afraid of his shadow than I thought. Or, what's more likely, the locket contains a bit of green Kryptonite. This would also explain his hunger, bus rides, tiredness, etc. Wonder if his accident happened because of coming into contact with red kryptonite. Great story. Biggest issue was refraining from starting part 3 before leaving FDK for 1 and 2, so as to not muddle things too much Michael
