Cover For Me 1/?*

"You're a good skier Clark" said Mayson as they settled into the lift chairs for the ride back up.

"So are you Mayson, thanks for inviting me, this has been fun"

"I'm glad you came Clark. I''d intended to invite you for a private weekend but decided I'd be rushing things beyond a point where either of us would have been comfortable."

"Mayson, I'm glad you invited Henderson and his wife and the others. Plus the seperate bedrooms helped."

Mayson laughed, "Oh I think I'll .."

Whatever she'd been about to say was interupted by a loud booming sound that seemed to go on and on.

Looking eastward both could see the mountain slide down covering skiers.

"Avalanche" both said it at the same time.

Clark looked around, it would be several minutes till the lift reached the top.

"Mayson, if those people aren't reached quickly they'll die of suffocation or hypothermia"

"I know, I don't suppose you have Superman on speed dial? By the time the sound of those shouts reaches Metropolis most of these people will be dead."

"Mayson, I'll need you to cover for me with Bill and the others" Clark said as he unhooked his safety belt.

"What are" Mayson stopped in mid sentance as Clark shifted out of the liftseat hanging in mid air.

"Cover for me" he repeated as he spun in to the suit and took off towards the disaster.

Mayson and the lift continued upward.

It took her a full minute to clear her head. Everyone around her was still staring at the disaster. The beginner and intermediate runs were completely covered in clean white snow. All signs of life, indeed any sign that humans ever existed, gone. No flags, markers midway shelters, nothing.

"Cover for me". How exactly does one explain the disappearance of someone from a lift chair three fourths of the way up a mountain?

She stared at the poles and skis thinking. There must be 300 people at least hidden in the snow. "Clark is going to need backup, even Superman can't do this alone." She reached for her cellphone to alert EMS without thinking. No cell.

"Drat I must have left it charging in her room. IN HER ROOM! Yes, YES"

She reached over and grabbed Clark's skis and tossed them off the lift, next the poles flew downward.

When the lift arrived at the top, Bill Henderson approached her.

"Where's Clark?" He knew Clark and Mayson had boarded the lift together, he'd seen them behind him in line just a short time ago.

"Off playing Superhero" ["Oh so the wrong thing to say"] "I mean calling Superman, I left my cell on the charger and he doesn't own one. He jumped off to go back and use it."

Henderson was looking at her like she'd gone crazy.

"Bill, do you have your badge? We need to get down to the Lodge and get all those tour buses running. Somehow I think people will pay more attention to your badge then me."
