Nice part. Poor Clark, I wonder when he will finally get his chance.

The coffee boy, huh? Any chance that he might be the elusive Mr. Calvin what's-his-name?

Thank you for sharing this funny story.

LOL! Coffee boy! Got to love him, he is so much fun to hate! Very cute story so far. I love that you posted a new one so quickly! Laura

Yay for part 2! And for Clark's attempts at asking Lois out failing! That is quite hilarious, though sad at the same time!

LOL at the coffee boy! I was also thinking that he is perhaps the elusive Mr. Montgomery - though why he would be filling in as a coffee boy, I don't know...

Cannot wait for part 3 hyper

Good part! I love how obsessed Clark is in this story- he's always obsessed with Lois, of course, but you really play it well in here.

The coffee boy? eek Ooh, boy. Even if it's not Calvin something, it'll be awkward just because he'll probably tell Lois about how overprotective Superman is about her... and of course, Superman's the one who showed up to stalk... er, attend the charity event, so he can't play it cool or pretend to be Clark...

And I really liked this line:
Quote
Clark rallied his good humour and sent her what he hoped was a dazzling smile.
laugh Even Clark knows it's dazzling...

Can't wait for the final chapter!

Dare I suspect that you were about to mock Clark's hair gel?

That's OK. It deserves to be mocked. laugh

The email server had gone down. They apologised for the inconvenience and regretted to inform their valued customers that accounts would be inaccessible until the problem had been rectified.
Thought so! laugh

"What could possibly be in your inbox that you don’t want me to see?" she asked. "Do you have a story?"
Erm, no.

Hopefully, over the course of an entire lunch, he would be able to find a way to ask Lois for a date.
The waiter is going to spill something on Lois and get her all riled up again, huh?

His optimism lasted less than ten seconds – razed by the peal of her phone. Clark clenched his fists in frustration as Lois turned away to answer it.

"No – just the opposite," she said with a smile. "Let’s go."

"What does that mean?" Clark asked, thinking of how often Lois put her hand on his arm.
Exactly.

"Nothing."

Clark took a deep breath and plunged in. "Lois, would you go -"

"Ms Lane," came a deep voice from behind him.

The coffee boy consulted his flashy gold watch. "I'm going to be late," he wailed. "I have an important event this evening. It starts in four hours, and it's going to take ages to clear this road." His eyes turned on Superman. "You could help," he said. "You could fly me home. This is a crisis. It's crucial I look my absolute best, and -"
Man, this kid is beyond annoying.

Her head spun to where Perry was storming out of his office, heading straight for them. Clark stared at his editor with abject disbelief.
Perry Interruptus!

Quote
"Do you have plans for this evening?" Perry asked her.
Well, she *would* have, if you'd taken 30 seconds longer.

Quote
"You want Lois to go with Jimmy?" Clark said with squeaky incredulity.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Clark groaned in silent dismay. He had hoped that Lois would be on a date with him tonight. Instead, she would be dancing with some extravagantly rich guy from out of town.
*snicker*

Quote
The doors closed. His hopes lay in a shattered heap.
*gives Clark a hug*

He had tried all day, but every single attempt had been thwarted before he'd reached the question mark.

Clark turned to look at her screen.

There was a message.

But not *his* message.

The email server had gone down.

This was an opportunity.

Not ideal.

But she wasn’t angry.

Or exasperated.

Her phone wasn't ringing.

And they were alone.

Clark took a deep breath and plunged in. "Lois, would you go -"

Close!

Laura Yeah, the coffee boy is rather obnoxious. But sometimes those characters are fun to write - and hopefully fun to read.

DW Hilarious and sad - laugh

Jackie I think that when Clark saw Lois dancing with the coffee boy, it probably felt like the low point in a very bad day.

Mouserocks

Clark's smile - I figure that by halfway through the second season, even Clark has to have worked out that his smile has an effect on Lois.

Iolanthe Would I mock Superman's hair gel? wink

Mpj Poor Clark. Perhaps things will get better for him. wink

DC Thanks for all the comments - they were as entertaining as the story laugh

Emily I *did* fix it! smile

Evelyn Chuckling and groaning - that's a good combination!

Is 'flyblown' Australian? We *do* have more than our fair share of flies!

Morgan Yep, he got upstaged. Sometimes, life just isn't fair.
