Wow - this is a very different take on the usual Lex Luthor.

Firstly, he's putting up with what he would call "insolence" (and what I call assertiveness) from his assistant Aykira. I can't see canon Lex allowing his staff to talk at him that way. I assume that this Lex's emotional reactions have already become affected by his brain tumor.

Second - is it wrong of me to say, "Good riddance!" to Lex? After all, he's been THE villain of L&C for so long! Isn't this just karmic payback?

(But yes, it is wrong to wish bad things on people. Then you get the karmic payback and it's not pretty. Although this does give me the excuse to post the link on How to bake a Schadenfreude pie, th...g in the horrible misfortunes of others. I've wanted to post that link somewhere for ages. laugh )

I thought you did a very nice job of showing Lex's disbelief when he was told about his prognosis. Denial is the first reaction.

Hmm... Aykira - nice to learn more of her backstory. Is she the only person from that alt-world to come into the L&C world? Is there a Superman in Aykira's home world?

It does sound as if Aykira's home world is in perilous straits. Why did the crystals have to be invented in the L&C world? Why didn't Aykira's world invent them on their own, if they already knew about them?
huh

Yes! This Lex Luthor is totally different from the one we all know and intensely 'dislike'. So, the tumor is not the complete reason for him accepting her behavior. Aykira is not going to allow him to bully her as we have seen from previous parts in the story.
Lex has done some bad things to a number of good people. You cannot rain that kind of havoc without expecting a little payback, which is just what this tumor is. He will suffer for his arrogance. I mean, how long does he have left?
The first writing on his reaction was a little tame, but my beta reader suggested Lex’s reaction would be more ‘hands-on’? But Lex’s most important emotional component (in this fic) is self-control. So he will allow rage, as long as it is controlled.
Why indeed. The lady has her reasons…

Just got around to reading this chapter. Loved it! Coming from someone who actually sits in the Lex Luthor camp, I feel bad for him. I know he's still a bad dude and all, but his relationship with Aykira (budding as it is) proves that he's not just a cold heartless monster (in this universe at least).

And yay for revealing officially the fact that Aykira's from an alternate universe! I, too, have many questions on that front, but I suppose all in good time... Liked the reaction scene too, and the argument Lex had early on with her. Great chapter!

At long last I'm back with FDK. RL sucks... frown

Finally some answers are coming up. Poor Aykira has been away from her world for six years. It's a long time spent on a mission. She's really committed to saving her world even if it means paying the price in her personal life. Wow, say what you want about the woman but she has gallantry. notworthy

I think her insolence (as IolantheAlias put it) is one of her traits that attracted Luthor. He has always been used to women (and people in general) bending to his will, so her assertiveness is a challenge for him.

He has proposed, but he doesn't know Aykira's secret. Let's see what she will do now.

Lex needs a little insolence in his life. Too many women have throw themselves at his feet because of his money. Aykira is letting him know he can't push her around.

I'm not sure how I feel about my 'husband' with anyone but Lois Lane or myself, (lol) but I love that you're depicting a softer side to Lex.
