I have a wedding to attend this weekend (hubby's cousin) so you are all getting this chapter a little on the early side.

I like early! You can post early whenever you like. My, Cameron Trask is an evil, evil man and we haven't even been introduced to Jason yet. I can just imagine how much Jason hates "S" for getting all of his father's attention (even if none of his love). I'm glad that Jensen is there. Poor Clark. How Cameron tortures the kid. Doesn't he know that if you want someone to do what you want it's better to do so with kindness first? Guess not! Interesting that S doesn't catch earth diseases and germs despite when exposed to the green rock. I would think he'd be more vulnerable to them when exposed, because it's not something his body is used to. Maybe he just has a natural immunity against all human / earth illnesses. So, what is Cameron teaching S in his private studies. Clearly, he wants revenge against "someone" the military, but which one? All of it? The pentagon? Or every base in the world? The government? I'm glad even at 10, S is smart enough to recognize that Cameron isn't someone to believe or trust. Yea! That S recognizes that sunlight makes him stronger. Booo! On Trask keeping him indoors all the time. I think this might have to do more with Tempus telling him that someday S will be able to leap tall building with a single bound and also fly. But without the sunlight, he will not become the super soldier Trask wants him to be. Where are Martha and Jonathan when you need them?! (And, please, I know they're in Kansas.)

Hi, Virginia! Thanks for stopping in! I like early! You can post early whenever you like. Figured you'd like that! My, Cameron Trask is an evil, evil man and we haven't even been introduced to Jason yet. I can just imagine how much Jason hates "S" for getting all of his father's attention (even if none of his love). Yes, very, very evil. Kinda like my muse. I'm glad that Jensen is there. Poor Clark. How Cameron tortures the kid. Doesn't he know that if you want someone to do what you want it's better to do so with kindness first? Guess not! Well, Jenson's kindness (what little he can sneak in) is important in keeping Clark from going completely over the edge. As for Trask, he's pretty ruthless and single-minded, huh? Interesting that S doesn't catch earth diseases and germs despite when exposed to the green rock. I would think he'd be more vulnerable to them when exposed, because it's not something his body is used to. Maybe he just has a natural immunity against all human / earth illnesses. I was thinking along the lines of a natural immunity. Earth diseases just aren't compatible with his body. I suppose it could go either way though, since it's never touched on in canon, except for in Home Is Where The Hurt Is...and then, he's not being exposed to Kryptonite. He's teaching him tactical stuff. Where countries are located. Who runs them. What weapons are called what. His plan (and I might need to clarify this, but I was trying to write it more from what Clark is able to observe) is to take revenge on everyone. The woman who accused him of rape. The court marshal. The Entire US military, for taking all his years of service and giving him nothing in return. And finally, he's just looney enough to want to topple world governments. S is smart enough to realize Cameron is bad because a) he's Clark, and Clark is naturally smart and b) because of the horrendous way he treats him. Clark sees that only he is treated so awfully and has been exposed to a small amount of compassion from Jenson. Trask does realize it. But he also doesn't want to risk Clark getting too strong yet. Not until he's fully under his control. Where are Martha and Jonathan when you need them?! (And, please, I know they're in Kansas.) In Kansas? Seriously, they are just going about their (childless) life in Kansas, working their farm. Will we see them again? Maybe. Maybe not. And if we do, what capacity will it be in?

Two-year-old. "Sir, I'm afraid it's no use." The man's voice held a note of frustration mixed with worry. "I've tried."
"Try it again."
"Mr. Trask, I've tried every type of needle known to mankind. The child's skin is impervious." (Translation: There, there. It’s not so bad.) Cameron chuckled from his place on the other side of the room. So, did he become un-degraced by finding a supposed alien inside a supposed alien space ship? Now they became only the whimpering cries of a frightened child in desperate need of comforting. Also, likely a diaper change The sound of gunfire blotted all other noise out. S flinched at every shot, the sound reverberating in his ears. He looked down at the spent rounds that lay pooled around his feet. They were high enough to bury his toes and kiss his ankles. What are they trying to prove? Find the spot where the leaf has fallen onto his shoulder while little Siegfried was bathing in the dragon’s blood? And somehow, S knew, child though he was, that it could kill him. Hey! When did they teach him about death?

S gulped in renewed fear. He knew what the gesture meant. The green rock was coming out. Umm… The gunman nodded once in acknowledgement, though S didn't see it. The man squeezed the trigger, and a bullet whizzed by S, expertly placed. It grazed the top of his left shoulder. S was cruising along at about forty miles per hour, Jenson could see. That’s awfully slow. Why? A cheetah could still catch him. Once again, it hammered home the fact that S was an alien. Though he looked and sounded like a regular kid, he was not of the Earth. He was not human. It was a fact Jenson sometimes found himself forgetting. Maybe if he went and checked S’s room and inspected his collection of butterfly wings and kitten bones? He might even kill him, rather than simply terminate his involvement with the ragtag group of rogue scientists who called themselves Bureau Thirty-Nine. Wow. Just *how* did Cam set up that operation? How fast would S become? Would he ever be able to outrun a train, for example? Would he be able to lift a car with his bare hands? Car. Space shuttle. Sack of potatos. Would he possess the ability to bend steel? Kinda-sorta. He’ll also be able to jump a tall building in a single bound. Jenson knew that his boss was working - slaving really - over plans to build a more secure cell for S, one he would not be able to break free of once his strength began to manifest. Umm…One that has Kryptonite embedded inside the walls? Would he be able to control the elements? Would he gain the ability to shape-shift? No. He’s not a magical being. Maybe he should cut back on his comic consumption. Trask personally oversaw the child's education. No one but Trask and S were privy to what, exactly, those lessons consisted of. He’s not probing the alien, is he? S could recite the names of every major city in the world, what countries they were in, and who was in charge. Also, population sizes, shatter points, and generally best way to obliterate it using a hand-delivered thermonuclear device. He could easily figure out the longitude and latitude of any place Cameron could possibly mention. That should come in handy for unassisted flight. At least, until they set up the GPS satelies. And yet, S had the nagging feeling that Cameron was withholding information from him, even at that young age. Oh boy. Is *he* going to be floored when he sees his first woman. I’m wondering if Cameron will bring in a Lana as a test subject for a 16-18 year-old alien. Or will it be a Lois? Who they were, S didn't know. They were simply "the enemy." But S had the impression that "the enemy" was anyone who wasn't Bureau Thirty-Nine. Smart boy. He’s learning! Try as he might, S found it impossible to force himself to become the cold-hearted killer Cameron wanted him to become. Best not tell Cameron, though. He couldn't understand why Trask wanted him to destroy so many wonderful, fascinating things. He doesn’t care about the butterflies. He just uses them to target the human hosts the y land on. He didn't want to kill. He didn't want to destroy. He simply wanted to live his life. Michael

Ooooh! Double Darthy feedback! Since Cam removed those nasty stones early in the young prince’s development, is it possible his powers will manifest that much sooner? Before, he had always been in the same general area as the stones. They might have seeped into the water. The air. Just general radiation leaks. Who knows. I never really believed that K in the area ever affected Clark. I mean, wouldn't it have made him sick all the time? So I used what (little) knowledge the show gave us of when his powers manifested, and came up with the rest on my own schedule to meet the demands of this story. Awwwwww! Isn’t he adorable! Actually...yes. And started to float when he was supposed to Or...will. Huh. Don’t you normally sniff to check? Safer (by far) than sticking a finger in to check. Tempus must have tricked him! Also, I’m steadfast in my K-theory. The question is: *Did* Tempus hold back at all, just because it would be *fun* if Cameron got taken by surprise once in a while? *Or* is Clark's dire situation somehow forcing his powers to manifest at a slightly more hurried pace? <nods> Duh! S wailing. S vulnerable. Duh! Also, fun remark, ‘s’ is pronounced just like the German version of ‘it’ Not my intention at all, but awesome all the same. Also, this is the first time Jenson has seen the effects of the K. /S rips steal frame from inside the wall and plunges it into Jenson/ (Translation: There, there. It’s not so bad.) So, did he become un-degraced by finding a supposed alien inside a supposed alien space ship? Nope. Still disgraced. Still wacko. Also, likely a diaper change Always a possibility. Alien brood. Sent to take over the planet. Alien brood. Being *told* to take over the planet. <nods> /nods/ And with extreme prejudice. <nods> Also, tey *just* laid off the janitor that day...and it's *soooo* hard to get out blood stains from the floor... He revealed *Tempus*? Oh dear. Oh boy. Oh my. Yes. But not too much else. You mean like Jason Trask? Erm...not quite. What are they trying to prove? Find the spot where the leaf has fallen onto his shoulder while little Siegfried was bathing in the dragon’s blood? That nothing really can harm their super soldier. Also, I thought it was a cool scene. Hey! When did they teach him about death? Around the time they started to teach him that membership in Bureau Thirty-Nine is a lifetime contract? Or that he needs to grow up to kill?

Well, he *is* only 10. Alt-Clark said his folks died when he was 10, and though he was fast, he wasn't fast enough. Why? A cheetah could still catch him. <Pictures said cheetah, catching Clark, taking a bite, and shattering all its teeth like a cartoon character> Maybe if he went and checked S’s room and inspected his collection of butterfly wings and kitten bones?

This is a very sad tale. The only person besides Kal-el/S I can like at all is Jenson.
Still, I have more hope for Kal-el than I did at first. Cameron seems to not understand the best way to develop someone to do your bidding. S seems to not be internalizing Cameron's plans and will probably flee if he ever gets a chance.
He won't be the Clark we know and love, but I don't think he will be the super-soldier slave of Trask either. This is especially likely because Tasks one way of controlling him also limits his power.
So where is this compund. My first guess is New Mexico, but almost certainly in the desert Southwest of the US.

Hi, John! This is a very sad tale. The only person besides Kal-el/S I can like at all is Jenson. Yes, it is. But I promise it won't *all* be doom and gloom. I couldn't do that to poor Clark. Still, I have more hope for Kal-el than I did at first. Cameron seems to not understand the best way to develop someone to do your bidding. S seems to not be internalizing Cameron's plans and will probably flee if he ever gets a chance. Yup. Our Clark is a smart kid. Cameron isn't going about things the right way at all. Will Clark get free? Will he flee? Stay tuned to find out! He won't be the Clark we know and love, but I don't think he will be the super-soldier slave of Trask either. This is especially likely because Tasks one way of controlling him also limits his power. Possibly. But we have yet to see what other life experiences he might have. Still, even as a kid, he somewhat resembles the Clark we know. After all, he's got a strong aversion to killing, at the very least.

Maybe if the dose is *very* low? Maybe. But one or two little specks of it inside his body almost killed him in Top Copy. If the water was filled with K radiation (for example) and he was ingesting it all the time...shouldn't that have killed him? Of course, *this* Clark wasn't brought up in Smallville. But couldn’t that have unforeseen consequences, like Cameron terminating the experiment? Maybe. But more likely to cause Cameron to experiment *more* in order to sate his curiosity. No there’s a fun thought! That’s why you either lay out plastic wrapping on the floor like in LWII or have a special termination room. Where's Dexter when you need him??? Wouldn’t an ‘I need you to make the bad people go away’ be more helpful? Probably. But this is Cameron. And he's a tad...shall we say...unbalanced? Just enough to weaken him. Either that or have it lead shielded so he will only become hurt when he punches a hole in it. I was actually going to write in a similar design. Have the K be exposed if he ever used his strength inside his cell. But it just wasn't working, and besides, Clark wouldn't know the design, nor would Jenson. Also possible. Just takes much longer. Apparently more enjoyable though. The evil NKers seemed to like it... Hey! What do you mean ‘could have been’? /taps foot/ Not telling! All I'll say is, Yes, Lois will meet Clark, and vice versa.

Wow, that was heart wrenching. His suffering so beautifully written. Off to the part 3.
