Just thought it might be fun to post a new chapter tonight. I'll probably be posting twice a week, now that I have the entire thing beta'd.

Your ears must've been burning because I was wondering when a new part of your story would post. Twice a week! Yea! Clark has a family. I was so worried that they would bring Trask in and ask his side. Clark is learning a lot. In 4 months, he's not only learned how to read and write, but to realize that he loves it enough to be a journalist. That's some accomplishment. I'm curious about the "first" Clark, who Martha mentioned. What happened during the adoption process that caused M&J to be so adamently denied adoption rights. Were they given an infant to watch, who died of SIDS in its sleep? And they were blamed for its death? /pst. You're missing an opening bracket at the beginning of an Italics marker, towards the end of your story/

Your ears must've been burning because I was wondering when a new part of your story would post. Twice a week! Happy to be of service! Also, I'm a sucker for feedback, so I always want to post stuff. Yea! Clark has a family. I was so worried that they would bring Trask in and ask his side. Trask never reported him as missing. HUGE red flag, coupled with Clark's obvious terror and tale of abuse. Clark is learning a lot. In 4 months, he's not only learned how to read and write, but to realize that he loves it enough to be a journalist. That's some accomplishment. <nods> He's one smart boy. The photographic memory normally attributed to him certainly helps in the learning process. And he *is* sort of fated to be a journalist. I'm curious about the "first" Clark, who Martha mentioned. What happened during the adoption process that caused M&J to be so adamently denied adoption rights. Were they given an infant to watch, who died of SIDS in its sleep? And they were blamed for its death? I could see something like that happening. There's no "first" Clark. She merely said that if they had ever had a boy, that's the name they had chosen for him. Kinda like how hubby and I sometimes talk about names we like for kids even though we aren't pregnant yet, and don't know if we ever will be that lucky. As for the denial, I left it a bit open ended. I might go back and change it. I was thinking along the lines of an arrest record (the J&M of canon marched for civil rights, though they don't ever mention being arrested). I know that can prevent an adoption from happening (I know someone who's hubby has a record for something stupid and they will probably never be able to adopt because of it). I couldn't see Clark leaving the Kents and willingly going into foster care with another family or being taken somewhere else with the sheriff. He would surely rebel and escape again, going off on his own, but this time avoiding people entirely, so that he would no longer form attachments as he had with the Kents, only to have his heart broken again. I'm so glad he wasn't forced to go that route. (LOIS: Me, too.) That's a very sad thought!!! Although, on the other hand, maybe he would have made his way back to the Kents and they would have just hidden the fact that he returned? Looking forward for more. Sorry about the short FDK but I do want some time to work on my story tonight, before my head hits the keyboard in ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Ha! I know the feeling! I feel like I've been working on chapter 2 of Broken for weeks (I really haven't been, but I want to write tonight and my eyes are starting to get droopy). /pst. You're missing an opening bracket at the beginning of an Italics marker, towards the end of your story/ Ah, much appreciated. All fixed now!

Hi DC, But whatever words the judge spoke today had the potential to destroy him. It's so true. She appeared to be in her early seventies And she's still working as a judge? How old do you have to be to retire in the US? "We do," Martha said. "We've felt that way since the second Clark came into our lives." Second Clark? Picking up the morning's edition of the Smallville Post from the mailbox and skimming the front page, Clark finally had the answer he'd been searching for. He could use his love of writing, and combine it with his desire to help mankind. He would become a journalist. Not the kind who merely reported on what had transpired at a sporting event, or a local harvest festival. He would become almost detective-like, sleuthing out answers to real problems. He would expose the underbelly of society, and use his words and determination to bring justice to people who needed it.
He would become an investigative reporter. I hope there is a Daily Planet in this universe. "You two are now parents. And you, young man, are officially Clark Jerome Kent."

Hi, Sydney! <nods> And she's still working as a judge? How old do you have to be to retire in the US? She just likes her job. Like my father-in-law. He can retire whenever he wants, but he likes what he does, so he continues to work. Second as in unit of time, not in number of Clarks in their lives. Perhaps I should change it to "moment." I hope there is a Daily Planet in this universe. There is, as luck would have it! Thank you!

Ooh! Yay! Clark's a Kent now! Finally! I was so worried that Trask would come into this, but I guess it makes sense that he wouldn't want anyone looking into his business. Oh, and bonus yay! for Clark picking up so quickly on learning, to the point of deciding he wants to become a journalist someday. Hmm... Why do I feel like I know where that will take him... I'm curious too about Jonathan and Martha's rejection. What could possibly keep them from adopting a child? Is this something different from canon, or along the same lines? Great chapter! Things are starting to look up for Clark-- I hope they stay that way for now. So, are we going to see Clark in school any time soon? Or are we going to skip farther forward than that?

Yes, he now is really Clark Jerome Kent. So, are the Kent's going to home school him all the way, or at some point will they send him to public school? I fully understand why they haven;t sent him yet, but maybe next year. Now, how long till we see Lois? I mean it does not count as LnC fan fic if Lois does not show up, now does it?

Hi, Mouse! Ooh! Yay! Clark's a Kent now! Finally! I was so worried that Trask would come into this, but I guess it makes sense that he wouldn't want anyone looking into his business. Yep. He knows bigger troubles will be ahead for him if he makes an official claim of Clark being missing. He doesn't want to be officially connected to an abused child. Oh, and bonus yay! for Clark picking up so quickly on learning, to the point of deciding he wants to become a journalist someday. Hmm... Why do I feel like I know where that will take him... Because you do. Also, it helps to have a flawless memory! (Or close enough to one!) I'm curious too about Jonathan and Martha's rejection. What could possibly keep them from adopting a child? Is this something different from canon, or along the same lines? Did they ever say in L&C canon? I know I've read at least one fic that had that with an arrest record for their involvement in the civil rights marches. I was thinking along the same lines. I will probably write it in when prepping it for the archive. Great chapter! Things are starting to look up for Clark-- I hope they stay that way for now. So, are we going to see Clark in school any time soon? Or are we going to skip farther forward than that? You won't see him in high school, but you will see him while he is still high school aged, even though he will be caught up enough to attend regular school the following fall. Things are definitely looking up for him!

Now, how long till we see Lois? I mean it does not count as LnC fan fic if Lois does not show up, now does it? Hi, John! He'll attend regular school once he is up to speed. Luckily, he's a fast learner with a perfect memory. So the following fall, he'll join the rest of the kids in Smallville in school. I debated about writing his first day of school, but there were other things I wanted to explore even more. Lois will show up (briefly) in Chapter 8.

So now, officially, they have "a record", and maybe a misdemeanor would prevent an adoption. I can't see the authorities managing to pin a felony charge on the Kents for this.

Lois will show up (briefly) in Chapter 8. Is this because Lois will only make a brief apparance in this fic, or because Lois will make a brief first apparance to then come back later for a larger role. I hope it is the later case.

I can't see the authorities managing to pin a felony charge on the Kents for this. No, it would definitely *not* be a felony charge. But a couple of misdemeanor charges could definitely throw a kink into adoption plans.

I hope it is the later case. No worries! Lois definitely has a decent role in this fic. She'll appear briefly only to reappear later on.

Michael feedback! /waits for him to meet Lois/ Hehehe! It would also make for a great Greek Tragedy. Or, at the very least, some twisted fanfiction. JUDGE: Little Kal-El, we’ve found your parents. They’ve just landed last night in Outon’s Field. Flattened a lot of crops, let me say. Anyway, they bobbed in here and told us how you apparently took off with the cradle. Oh, honey, they’re not blaming you. Jor-El, that’s your father, he keeps muttering that he should never have installed that hyper-drive in the cradle… Clark: Oh great. Let me guess, the owner of the crops is sueing for damages to boot. /imagines female version of Judge Boone from Picket Fences/ <doesn't know who that is> Well…the Joker has laugh-lines, too. ...........Good point. CLARK: …and then he tried to shoot me… Clark: And then there was the time he used an RPG on me... A nun doing needle point? Out of human intestines? “They let me sleep in their warm shed.” “They let me sleep in their warm shed.” To play for the Bills before a devastating knee injury when the ball gets stuffed with Kryptonite? Of course. He’s got to learn to read the recipes if he’s going to be of much use in the kitchen. Also helps in measuring out ingredients too. They never hit him like the other people do. Or call him a creature. Awwww, he’s learned to fetch And he doesn't even leave drool on the paper! Man. Woman. Yes. Man + Woman = fun. No. Duh! There’s no land to conquer on the other worlds that Trask knows of. That's because the Men In Black neurolized Trask after he found out about what *really* happened in Roswell. LOIS: Great. Thanks a lot, guys. Clark: It's okay, Lois. I'm sure that once I meet you, I'll forget how to speak and write coherently, if not completely. Ooooh! You mean, like Lois? <nods> Now, that’s just mean. J.O. delaying their gratification for her own. Old lady needs her kicks? That’s not cutting to the chase. <J.O. smiles and whistles innocently> And Martha didn’t even need an epidural. Martha: <shrugs> Works for me.

Also, Bone, not Boone. Henry Bone. It’s been a long time. <Studies pic> Nope, still don't know him. Oh well. That was a fun game of catch. Except when he missed and exploded a neighboring household. And *no*. He’ll be a drooling mess. Like Odie. Does that make Lois Garfield? Hide the lasanga!

Except when he missed and exploded a neighboring household. Oops? CLARK: Mom, Dad? How long do I have to work summers to pay for that? At least he doesn't make on the floor. And with his history, that might be a possibility indeed. Well, since he used to sleep on the floor… Michael
