I love that Clark is recognized by his old teacher and glad that his disguise works well enough to take her years to catch the resemblance.

She's a former ballroom dance instructor, now assistant French Medieval history professor? Did I understand that correctly? If I did, I betting there's an interesting story there.

I'm a little confused on why the "Nigerian Princess" was from Ethiopia though. I guess you're saying that she was neither Nigerian nor a princess? dizzy Then why would Clark mention her as such, making it sound like he a) learned to ballroom dance in Africa, b) in a the home of a royal family, and c) is boasting to Lois, which doesn't seem Clark's style. Or *was* there a Nigerian Princess also in his class? confused Am I missing something?

Feedback!

Meadowrose and Laurach
Thank you. Sometimes simple is the most beautiful and sweet.

Wow! I missed that one! blush . Her original home has now been changed to Lagos, which is the former capital of Nigeria. Yes, Abrihet does have an interesting history, which unfortunately won't be tackled by me anytime soon. frown

Wasn't that Martha and Clark's plan? To make him unrecognizable? All the pictures Abrihet had seen of Superman he never smiled.

Sorry for baffling you, I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

Hi, Morgana,

I'm glad you posted this. Whenever I see this kind of story, I think back to my own "Encountering Talent." These 3rd party looking on from the outside are always fun because they are so different.

As I said the first time I saw this, I think it is a very nice idea. And I still do. thumbsup

Bob:

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Writing from the viewpoint of a character FoLC's are not familiar with gives LnC a fresh prespective. Who knows perhaps we will see Abrihet again, one never knows in this fandom!

Can you imagine what would have happened to Clark if they had had a bad relationship?

Now I have to read Encountering Talent! smile1

Always nice to see a bit more of the background characters from the show! You did such a good job of creating a personality for this character we only see for a moment, as well as dropping just enough background information for us to be able to weave together a profile of her past. But my favorite part was how she thought on Clark first holding her like china and being nervous and then later becoming confident -- such a great description of him in every area of his life!

Lovely story! It was a sweet take on a character that was mentioned just once. You created a beautiful background story. She often appears in fanfic but rarely somebody digs up her past.

This is a perfect little story! clap Abrihet is very charming. I can see why Clark would open up about his travels to her. It never occurred to me before that the "Nigerian princess" could be an older woman, but I really like your take on it. It's canon to me now. smile

Oh, I hope so!

Lois: You know, I have a funny feeling that you didn't tell me your biggest secret.

Clark: Well, just to put your little mind at ease, Lois, you're right.

Hi Morgana!

Quote
But the Nigerian princess who taught Clark Kent how to dance ballroom style pops up every now and then in fan fiction. Here’s my take
Interesting. What’s it going to be. And just for random plot bunnies, what if she would have turned out to be Zara?

Quote
She spoke aloud, “What is this? A human who possesses super powers? How can this be? Ah, he is very handsome… but such a stern and serious expression mars the face.”
Sounds like she’s the princess.

Quote
The dance teacher turned Maître de conferences (assistant professor) of French Medieval history at the Sorbonne University examined the picture intensely;
Family fell on hard times?

Quote
The Daily Planet’s reporter had always been associated with truth and decency, so this article could not be a hoax.
Wouldn’t it also have been on the news the previous night?

Quote
The theatre had been a popular showcase for French actors and actresses traveling to the United States in the twenties.
Ahhh…that’s why it’s in the French edition a couple of days later.

Quote
One of the last students she taught ballroom dancing before taking up her position in the Sorbonne’s history department.
So, already impoverished before she left?

Quote
She remembered talking to him about his travels. He had come to Paris from Borneo after working on a small paper there.
Oh, he learned in Paris. [Linked Image] Makes more sense now.

Quote
She arrived in Paris with enough money to build a life of her own.
Sounds like Clark’s never been very good with the whole truth with Lois right from the get-go. It’s all true. And it’s all a lie. Then again, telling Lois that he learned how to charm in Paris, that wouldn’t have been wise, given her history with the French.

Quote
Abrihet looked hard at the picture and then muttered to herself, “Mon Dieu! C'est impossible… ”
Ooops? Then again, Cat does say he needs to keep that dopey expression off his face as Superman.

Quote
She touched the black and white newspaper photo with deep affection and whispered, “Your secret is safe with me mon aimee… you always did have a lovely smile…”

The End
That was sweet. But is it wrong to have wondered about whether 419 would show up in the story? wave Michael

It is so nice of you to say that Abrihet will be a part of your personal canon! Despite Clark's extensive travels he was still a young man far from home. He respected her knowledge and experience, so of course he opened up to her.

The people Clark meet during his global trekking helped to shape his life.

No. She wanted to experience life. This would have been entirely impossible if she married at a young age. Her family had money, she took what was rightfully her and split!

No worries!

The exploration of Abrihet's backstory will be addressed in the future. It should be quite a challenge. But first The Globe needs to be finished.
